James Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5 at Auction for First Time Ever

The ejector seat could work well for a bad date, haha. Seriously though, do the other Bond gadgets work?

How about pictures of lower IQ scores lining the Jersey Shore?

Does the Xbox 360 failure rate make it a bad buy?

May 19th 2010 3:52PM (WalletPop)
It's true, the warranty covers the typical Red Ring of Death error for 3 years, and nearly all new Xbox 360's have a new "Jasper" chipset that doesn't succumb to that problem nearly as much (do a search online before buying to make sure you're buying the right model).

Personally, I bought mine when it came out almost 5 years ago, and just last month I had the Red Ring problem, so I wasn't under warranty anymore. Since the cost of repair would be around $100 anyway, I bought a new "Elite" Xbox 360 bundle for $300, sold the extra games and controllers that came with it, and sold my broken Xbox to a DIY techie, and it came out to costing around $100 after all was said and done, leaving me with a new one (with a much bigger hard drive!) instead of a fixed/refurbished one.

Haha, the 2nd bad one, too true

Are you safer in Starbucks with guns carried in the open?

Mar 18th 2010 1:22PM (WalletPop)
Yeah it may be legal, but they gotta expect things will get awkward with people uncomfortable around guns. If they got concealed carry permits, they could still have guns, other people wouldn't get startled (out of sight, out of mind), and everyone's happy.

Here's the main thing: Gun owners should try to be aware of where it might not be socially acceptable to open-carry a weapon and act accordingly, and non-gun owners need to chill out (open-carriers aren't going to shoot people for no reason, it's like insurance, same as somebody carrying Mace while walking at night).

Climate change: Warmest decade on record excites activists, actuaries

Dec 8th 2009 2:23PM (Daily Finance)
Man-made climate change is a fact, and it's worse than we've been led to believe. Temperatures have not only risen on Earth, but on other planets in our solar system as well (look it up). While an ignorant climate change denier might say it's fluctuations in the sun that's causing temperatures to rise here and on other planets, we all know the real reason is that our carbon output is flying out into space and causing global warming on those planets too. It's gotten so bad that if you look at photos of Mars, you won't see polar bears anywhere. Why? They're dead, because people just HAD to drive their cars. What jerks. The only way to solve this problem is through carbon taxes, not something stupid that everyone would agree on like solar panels or electric cars. We'll miss you, Martian polar bears. Never forget.

BioShock 2 Special Edition vinyl-y announced

Nov 19th 2009 1:44PM (Joystiq)
Mine is over 40 years old and still works great, just needs occasional cleaning and needle replacement. You can get new ones with USB capabilities for around $100 now, and if you have a good used record store nearby with a discount section, it will have paid for itself after a dozen or so records. But yeah, Bioshock LP? I'm sold.

Answering the 'Call of Duty' too soon: Game release ill-timed after Fort Hood

Nov 10th 2009 4:12PM (Daily Finance)
The timing of the game's launch was planned months ago, Activision had no idea the Fort Hood shootings would have happened. Customers would get annoyed and possibly lose interest in the product if they delayed the launch (e.g., Duke Nukem Forever, announced in 1997 and as yet unreleased). The Fort Hood shooting is obviously a tragedy that everyone should reflect upon in their own way, but depriving customers of something they had already preordered or intended to purchase would be bad business. And yes, I realize it's ridiculous to be defending a video game, but Activision has a choice here: 1) Release the game and potentially offend people who may not have even intended to buy the game, or 2) Delay the release, gain karma, but possibly lose customers in the worst economy we've seen in years?

More people selling pot as economy goes up in smoke

Sep 10th 2009 4:43PM (Daily Finance)
"American demand for marijuana is at an all-time high, even as tests show that today's herb is up to six times as potent as the weed smoked by the Woodstock generation."

I think that part should say "demand for marijuana is at an all-time high, ESPECIALLY as tests show that today's herb..." LOL
