MS bought a large sum of non negotiable stocks in Apple to save the company when it was on the brink of destruction. Besides, Microsoft is in the Software business. If they can manage a sale of Office to a Mac user, thats still a sale for them. In fact, since it's for OS X they can charge more.

yes, I'm sure Blizzard would be happy to lose 3 million customers who each pay $15 dollars a month so that you can stroke your "@@HEROIC@@" ego in Cataclysm. If the game dropped that many subscribers they'd make the next expansion so EZ mode your head would spin.

Stay with me on this, but I don't think that the Windows Stores are there to directly compete with Apple Stores. At least not in the typical sense of units vs units. Because to be honest Microsoft has already won that one by liscensing their OS to various vendors.


What is being atttempted here is to sell their new experience. With the Zune, Xbox and Windows markets really meshing together now, and the upcoming Phones and such, their products are really starting to shine. Hell, even the beta for Internet Explorer 9 is looking promising, out performing the competition in speed tests and the like (though that's thanks in part to hardware rendering with Direct Draw). What these stores are going to do is not sell Windows or laptops/desktops, but sell the idea of a Microsoft lifestyle, with a W7Phone equipped with Xbox Live and Zune Pass, which will transition from personal devices and phones to television sets and computers. Microsoft doesn't need stores to push units, just a mindset.

The typical way to get the student discount is to go to www.microsoft.com/student to get a copy (though now that the school year is full swing the cost has ramped up to $64 for 64bit Windows Professional (Still a good deal).

As for professors, they sometimes can get a free legal copy through their employer, or one at a heavily discounted rate. Don't be afraid to ask your IT dept.

I just did the Fallen Hero of the Horde quests. Traveling around the world, seeing elite mobs everywhere, some world boss mobs (Yes Azuregos I want to take your treasure) and some very impressive mechanics I haven't seen in WotLK.

However I can see why they're changing it and I'm glad they are. While the quests are epic, the way they're epic is they take forever to complete. 3 hours with a level 80, and I got some greens. Weeeeehhhh :(

I'm honestly not worried. To those who have facebook, do a quick search of your name. If you're like myself, you'll fine about 20+ people with the exact same name. I found 100. So like some people have said, it's not your social security number, its a name that is probably more common than you think.

So I think I get it now. Rockband 3 could be THE stepping point to turn these "musicians" into musicians. The controller works as the standard fare as well as the "real deal" so they hook the casuals with the basic controls, their demand for increasing difficulty brings them up to playing the new "Pro" mode, they suddenly know how to play a few songs on a guitar, they go out and buy a real one or use the Midi to write their own music. A bit of a stretch, but it is somewhat possible.

And since the controllers can be used like the previous iterations, they can play with their friends who are casuals like them since each player can get differing difficulty.

This is almost showing potential for being a guitar learning aid, giving people the inspiration, the motivation and means to learn and develop. The perfect storm for our tech integrated age.

While they didn't make a formal acknowledgment to the company, they did put a reference to them in their license like you said. Seeing as this is open source, I don't see why anyone should get up in arms about this. Maybe I'm just reading the post wrong, but this just feels like a drama stirring article. Great to know that the Open Source community has an impact on a pretty good browser like Safari though.
