RapidWeaver 5.0: TUAW exclusive first look and promo code giveaway

Dec 1st 2010 11:35AM (TUAW.com)
Just last night I had an idea for a site that mixes history with commentary to take a look at how our country is not only perceived now but how that's changed over time. Since I'm starting from scratch -- I'll be buying the domain name later today -- RapidWeaver will come in very handy!

SlingPlayer for iPad delivers all kinds of television to Apple's tablet

The Slingbox isn't a "DVR device." It's just a streamer.

Sprint to launch Peel case for iPod touch on Sunday

I would not pay that price. 3G and 4G devices are all over the place from every single carrier now. And as far as I know most plans are 5GB for about the same money... depending on the carrier and the plan, some cost less and some cost more.

If you suspect 1GB isn't enough for you, consider that your second gig costs you up to $50... chances are pretty high you'll pay less than $80 for the 5GB plan regardless of the carrier and plan. And if you shop well, you get more; at least one version of the MiFi has GPS.

Aside from the novelty of the form factor, the Peel case seems like a really bad idea for buyers.

HyperMac to return as HyperJuice

Ouch -- my bad. It's been so long since I used it that I forgot an inverter's needed too. I'm sorry about that, and thanks for pointing it out.

But aren't there a few portable battery options that just use AC connections? I've bought the Energizer ones from Woot; there must be others.

Dear Apple: Tear out your optical drives

Except, voidref, when you drop it and it skitters under the couch and the cat sees it and a couple of days later you dig it out of the litter box. Ever seen an install DVD in the litter box? I thought not.

The cheapo MacBook line that you bloggers buy, sure. I use my MBP as a desktop replacement and regularly burn CDs and DVDs.

New Apple Store opens in Australia, and a sneak preview of the new Chicago store

FWIW, although I haven't been through North & Clybourn since that last post, the unboxing pictures people have posted of the station show that the platforms have been cleaned up. Let's hope it lasts... that's always been a gross and uncomfortable station.

TUAW review: Sonos S5

Oct 7th 2010 12:36PM (TUAW.com)
I bought a few Logitech Squeezeboxes to replace aging Roku Soundbridges earlier this year... I really wish I'd ponied up the very small extra bit of money for the Sonos units, especially the S5's. Logitech is grossly overpriced and horribly buggy... Sonos just works. If I can pawn off the Squeezeboxes on someone, I'll take a karmic hit, but I'll still use the money to get the much better Sonos stuff.

I hope the next the option to select the teams you're interested in. Even independent Dashboard widgets allow that. But it's an OK start.
