Sony to deliver NGP lecture at GDC

Feb 17th 2011 6:40AM (Joystiq)
@Marshillboy Can we PLEASE drop that already? I'm all for opening up systems, jailbreak and all that crap (since I'm among the ones that believe that if you purchased it, it's entirely yours. Just stay off the servers), and even I'M getting tired of people blaming Sony for everything.

Want to blame someone? Don't blame the hackers that found and published the exploit, or the ones who made CFW. Blame the ones that abused those things to SCREW with the PSN.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 alternate costumes fated for DLC packs

Feb 15th 2011 11:43AM (Joystiq)
So, Capcom held back the cool outfits so they could charge us? I mean, seriously, Iron Patriot and Sparda are no brainers, and should have been on the disc in the first place.

God, I hate whoever invented the idea of DLC.

Sony looking to expand jailbreak lawsuit to more defendants

@djpenny DS Flashcarts are legal in Spain for adding WAY more functionality to the machine than what Nintendo allows. Gotta love Spanish courts, they don't actually bend to the wills of corporations.

@Mr Khan I'd be more worried about the precedent it'd give if Sony were to win. It would not only allow companies to sue people who research security flaws (which is legal) and post them for sharing knowledge (also legal), but it'd also set the precedent that companies actually DO own what we paid for and we are unable to do anything to it that we may want to. Not to mention that this lawsuit is in conflict with the ruling of the iPhone jailbreak, that while it is a different device, is in essence, the same deal.

@Aeschylus You realize ANY kind of jailbreaking can eventually lead to piracy one way or another, right? So, would you have them detract that the iPhone jailbreak should be illegal while it was deemed so?

They simply need to implement either better anti-piracy protections (no online check crap though, over half the world can't actually do that), or simply offer things to those that go legal that the pirates couldn't get.

@Quest It lasted 4 years before someone found the keys, which were pretty much there to be found with simple apps. OtherOS WAS the catalyst, like it or not. And before CFW and backups, they started to research how to bring that back.

The dongle jailbreak is a different matter. Can't even say for sure if that was achieved through hacking or leaked information from Sony.

@Gaming 4 Jesus How is that gonna happen? Piracy? Don't kid yourself, piracy barely puts a dent on console or software makers. Modern Warfare games are among the most pirated ever, and yet they still sold millions. The DS is even worse, and yet it's the best selling portable. The PSP is about the same, and only really loses to the DS for brand recognition in portables and Pokemon.

The next gen will come in three to four years. Kinect and Move would otherwise be completely pointless.

Kinect voice control not available in some countries until Spring 2011 [update: available in Canada at launch]

Sep 1st 2010 11:41AM (Joystiq)
@Danzaiver The easiest way for Latin America would really be just making it "castellano neutro" in case Kinect is really that sensitive over accents. Argentina alone has several different accents depending on the region, some being just intonation while others changing the way some words are pronounced completely.

I still don't understand why they can't just release it worldwide with English and then start pathing the other languages in new updated firmwares, instead of just gimping it. Just because someone lives in a non-english speaking country doesn't mean they can't use english voice commands.

"Oh, they live in Spain, they only know spanish, so english recognition will be useless there," jerks...

Microsoft working on approval to sell Xbox 360 in China

Aug 11th 2010 8:13PM (Joystiq)
"Neither the Nintendo Wii nor Sony's PlayStation 3 are available in the country"

Yeah... except for the likely imports that go under the radar, like in the rest of the world where the machines haven't been officially released. Seriously, with taxes and all that crap, they might end up costing more if officially released rather than imported from somewhere else.

Force Unleashed 2 canceled on PSP

Because Wii, PC, Xbox and DS don't have any piracy, right?

Oh, wait...
