Green Day: Rock Band more familiar to 'core audience' than The Beatles, MTV Games says

May 14th 2010 4:12PM (Joystiq)
I see it more as a "wait for it to drop to $30, then buy it as a track pack for RB2/3". I might play through the story mode once (for the achievements if nothing else...), but I'm frankly not all that interested in The Story of Green Day. And I say this having grown up in the Bay Area and seen them a few times in the early days...

But yeah, I don't get the comparisons either. They're different bands, different genres, appealing to different audiences (though I suspect there's some overlap in the fan base, it's probably not a huge percentage). The Beatles would never have released as DLC for RB, so I don't understand all the incessant complaints over not being able to do so. The Beatles/Apple Corps had a narrow (some might call it "old fashioned") vision of what they wanted a Beatles game to be, and would never have licensed any other way. Green Day, being perhaps more savvy and open to technology, are willing to allow their songs to be played outside the context of "their" game. I mean, heck, they're already available as DLC. Good for them, and I suspect they will sell more based on this ability. Fortunately, both bands will get the game they want.

Now, if Harmonix could just get to work on Pink Floyd: Rock Band... I don't give a damn if I can't export them, that'll be a day 1 purchase from me!

Uh.. did you not see the entire last paragraph?

"The clear market advantage that the Green Day game does have is the benefit of being compatible with Rock Band's existing and ever-growing library, as its tracks are exportable (for a fee) to Xbox 360 and PS3 hard drives and playable in the main iterations of the series. Though Guthrie didn't say as much, it's possible Beatles sales suffered because the game was a standalone project, which didn't mesh well with the Rock Band ethos and its core demographic."

I'd rather see Pink Floyd before Led Zeppelin (I want both, just want PF more), but I think both stand a slim chance of happening, which makes me a sad panda...

OK, but Take-Two might have an issue with their name choice...
