What's with the wheel on the MIDI adapter? And the 4 lights at the bottom? And the switch? What gives?

What Wiizer has said about joints and movements is true. Will it fail because of this? I don't know, but I hope that's one of many reasons. I don't mind new ideas, but I prefer tactile input. Even the iPhone's keyboard annoys me.

@looksideways Not that RB3 doesn't look like it's going to kick ass, but GH:WT drums have MIDI in, and even before that people (myself included) were using MIDI to signal converters to build their own controller interfaces.

That's intriguing. Holy hell if they get the charts right this time around, this game may usurp my love for Guitar Hero... but no Tool? Argh.

I don't understand how this is even possible, Rock Band has notoriously mapped the hi-hat all over the drum kit, on red, yellow and blue, and in more complicated songs the crash sometimes appears on yellow and blue, so how do they maintain interoperability with a four-piece kit and the thousands of DLC songs?? And how come the screenshot only shows four rows of notes?

I have a Roland TD6 hooked up via GH MIDI in and though it works fine for some songs, other songs the mapping is way out of whack and knowing whether you're supposed to hit a tom or a cymbal is not always clear.

Please let me be wrong.

If this is true, I'll bite, but I can't find anything in any of the linked articles saying so.

The keyboard is cool but unlike the guitar learning how to play a keyboard in real life (for rock songs) is easy.

I'll only buy RB3 under two conditions: better drum charts with more than 4 drums (I hope, I hope) -OR- an ability to find online quickplay matches with users who own DLC. ...or if they somehow get some pre-Lateralus Tool songs on there which is highly unlikely. Otherwise, this is a rental for me.

Huey Lewis and Metric stood out to me. But you should know that Crazy Train, Queen, The Doors and Jimi (along with Joan Jett and The Cure) were all in GH:WT. ;)

@imeNrique: I'm going to buy a 3D TV come the holiday season when they're on sale because that's how I roll, but do consider other "new technology:"

Among others. It's quite possible that 3D TV will come up dead in the water with consumers.

@Ryan: I'm a fine drummer, there's no song I can't play in these games with ease on my Roland kit (GH MIDI in FTW) and I can play them fine without the game. But my friend blows me away 1000x over, is a drum teacher, went to Berklee for drums, and agrees with all of my sentiments on the matter. But way to try to insult me.

Note: but Guitar Hero still suffers from the "Ramblin' Man" issue. It could be alleviated by the addition of yet another pedal, which seems more complicated, but in practice, is more simple.

Point is, compressing things doesn't always make them simpler, sometimes the "realistic" approach is the best because it was the simplest to begin with.
