Redsn0w jailbreak works with iOS 4.0.2... on your iPhone 3G

Aug 20th 2010 8:39AM (Engadget)
Jailbroken *and* 4.0 on a 3G? Why would you submit yourself to that kind of painful, painful torture? The two separately are bad enough for performance... Together? Forget about it.

iPod touch coming in a 'few weeks' with dual cameras and Retina Display, suggests John Gruber

Aug 12th 2010 11:12AM (Engadget)
WTF, Apple? How about you manufacture enough iPhones to manage your international demand before you start sucking away Retina displays for iPod Touches? Canada is suffering from SERIOUS shortages on iPhones (Rogers stores are getting 4-5 phones a WEEK, on average, and selling them out in approximately 15 minutes).

Samsung Captivate coming to Rogers 'soon'

Aug 5th 2010 9:53AM (Engadget Mobile)
Rumours on the Redboard post have this thing coming out on August 20th. Lack of front facing camera is *kinda* a bummer, but to be honest, I don't know anybody else who has a front facing camera on their phone any way, and I NEVER use Skype, so I can't imagine it being much of a dealbreaker for me. LED flash would be nice, even tho they are useless for the most part, but also not a dealbreaker. I guess it comes down to availability. I was thinking about an iPhone 4, as I've got a 3G right now, but I'm happy to consider this one as well if iPhone 4 availability doesn't improve in the next 2 weeks.

Telus launching North America's first 42Mbps dual carrier HSPA+ network (update: Bell, too)

Aug 3rd 2010 2:14PM (Engadget)
Interesting. I'm curious to see what kinda phones they bring out on this network - Telus generally is on the ball with bringing awesome phones up to Canada (although, to be honest, the HTC Desire isn't exactly what I was hoping for in the HTC Android smartphone arena)...

Netflix coming to Canada this fall

@mesonto Umm, there are no legal streaming video services in Canada, that I've been able to find. What are you talking about?

SLCD-equipped HTC Desire 'coming soon' to Telus

Jul 16th 2010 10:46AM (Engadget)
@iDroidPhone Only Flash Lite, which isn't quite as good as the Flash that's coming in Froyo.

SLCD-equipped HTC Desire 'coming soon' to Telus

@jellotime91 Are you kidding? Rogers is RIDICULOUSLY slow at picking up new (non-iPhone) handsets. I think they have been relying for too long on the iPhone and Blackberry to pick up all their smartphone needs - their best option on an Android phone right now is the X10! Bleh. I hope they pick up some variant of the Galaxy S to compete with the iPhone 4, but I cannot IMAGINE Rogers getting *2* good phones in a short timeframe.

Software to be unpatentable in New Zealand, Peter Jackson said to have some opinion on that

Jul 15th 2010 12:19PM (Engadget)
@Mike Vegas No, not at all. Copyright protects software quite nicely. The problem with software patents is that most of them suck. They're basically patenting *ideas*, ie the 1-click-checkout that Amazon patented (which I *think* has been invalidated, if I'm not mistaken?).

Apple and HTC lead charge as smartphone market looks set to grow and grow

Jul 15th 2010 10:13AM (Engadget)
@Mr Blue Bear in mind that this survey was in June 2010, at best JUST after the iPhone 4 was released, and before all the problems with the iPhone 4 really started coming to light. I'm sure if they did a survey at the end of July, they'd see much different results.

Droid X available to buy now

Jul 15th 2010 10:06AM (Engadget)
Dammit America, with your fancy delicious superphones. I really hope that Rogers starts picking up some of these phones up here in Canada, because right now our options SUCK. I remember the days when Bell used to be the company with the crappiest selection - Rogers has definitely fallen into the lead in that department now though - ever since they got the iPhone they have sat back and not bothered to get any real decent Android phones. Come on... The X10 is our only decent non-Iphone option right now? Ugh.
