And in case you are wondering why i broke it up into little replies, its because I realize that no one reads the INFORMATIVE but longer replies, because in forum settings apparently knowledge is toxic and controversy is King. Also I OWN a Ps3 and not a 360 but i still recognize which is a better system. PS3 just happens to have the games i want :(
Now to follow up on that memory bandwidth for the PS3 is also a problem. No UMA. and yes it can read and right to both, but thats completely deceiving. The cell attempting to Read from the VRAM is the equvalent of accessing a floppy drive. Its makes its usage outside of the main 256MB ram (reduced to 192MB by the OS and bandwidth further constrained do the screen buffer)useless. Seriously its READ SPEED is 16MB/s!!!! Thats soooo bad that they had to put "this isnt a typo" on the dev sheet...
To compensate for In order processing. The cpus use something called branch prediction. This attempts to guess pretty accurately which way the code will split. Particularly in conditionals such as AI. and REAL_TIME physics. the 360 has some of the BEST hardware branch prediction ever implemented into a processor. It has full branch prediction on ALL 3 cores. The PS3 by contrast has 1 full branch prediction unit and 7 branch "hints" on it cores. The latter being crappy as hell which you can imagine given the name "hints" and not even close to a full branch predictor. Thus in an intensive AI and REAL-TIME INTERACTIVE physics environment. The 360 has a clear decided edge.
Ok let me break this down for the technologically im paired. In order execution, differs from Out ofOrder execution. You home PC uses OoOE while both PS3 and 360 use IoE. Its several times worse because it can only process the could correctly if its in a VERY specific order. Otherwise it $h*ts all over itself. Benefit is its about 75% smaller, less heat and cheaper to make. Hence why it ends up in your consoles....
Does anyone else remember the "Phantom" game console? I cant have my heartbroken again... Although I now hear its the release platform for Duke Nuken Forever...
Ummm... you people do know how much a UMD holds right? 2GB assuming it is MANDATORY you better stock up on 4 and 8GB memsticks if this becomes a common practivce. Otherwise you wont even be able to PLAY the game with out dropping another 30-50 first!
Actually, and I know a million gamers will ping me for this but I think EA may have found its new "cashcow" If you cant milk gamers on rehashed titles go over deflamation of character and loss of profit suits over erroneous info like this. Yes its actually possible despite free speech.
Think about it, this was presented as information and fact which it clearly was not. EA can make a fortune off of stories like this!
If you read my posts you probably know I have a problem adding "S"s where appropriate. That should read "It doesnt even make sense to claim it as such being that the 50% of that 8:1 ratio are the same exact games" Mario Galaxy was used as an example as its the top games but it applies to all of them. My point is that no one else makes similar claims when highyl anticipated games release because the numbers do not mean ANYTHING and are misleading at best.
For example Halo 3 did 3.3M in its launch month more than all of the nitendos for this month combined. Its ratio was 8:1 for that month as well. 7:1 from its top 3 games... Did MS trumpet their MONTHLY attach rate like they won the super bowl?!?! heck no because it makes ZERO sense to do so. This is why they gave their to year to date attach rate. No one has made a stupid claim for a monthly attach rate before and for good reason. It makes no sense to do this...
I dont think anyone actually understand what these numbers mean. What it ACTUALLY means is that the majority of Wii owners purchased Mario Galaxy. Not that they bought games WITH the console. Meaning the vast majority of Wii owners have Zelda, Wii Sports and thats probably about it. What happen is that 70% of the previous Wii install base purchased games this month because there was actually something WORTH purchasing. As opposed to the ACTUAL number of Wiis sold. Expect a similar and dramatic climb when Smash Bros. launches. This is no where near consistent and is at best misleading as its not a true measure of ATTACH RATE!!! It doesnt even make sense to claim it as such being that the 50% of that 8:1 ratio is the same exact game... MS adn PS3 could have made similar claims when Large titles dropped on their consoles as well... Honest 360 likely would have had a higher "attach rate" than that the month Halo 3 or Gears of War dropped.
