Crisis Core trailer emphasizes PSP shortcomings, offers hope

Dec 1st 2006 9:54PM (Joystiq)
wow @ the hating comments and lol @ all the teenagers trying hard to overcome their masculine insecurities - It'll get better when you're older, I promise.

I don't even have a PSP and think Crisis Core looks great. Not enough to sell me a system made by those accursed Sony-people (I'm in Europe), but that game looks awesome, no matter how much you try to spin it.

Joystiq poll: Console purchase plans

If all you fucking Fanboys could just shut the fuck up, I wouldn't have to wade through over 50 posts of the same bullshit and namecalling over and over again to read some of the more interesting posts. God, it's really depressing that my favourite hobby is populated by so many degenerates. *sigh*

Downloadable Zelda content -- in the future

Nov 6th 2006 1:05PM (Joystiq)
This news item is no news item - tell us what the DLC is and if we have to pay for it - THEN and only then can we discuss something. Everything else is speculation at this point.

Reminds me of the Teaser for the Trailer of L.A. Noire (you better read this again) that was advertised on several gaming sites last month.

PS3s final eBay price

Nov 6th 2006 7:34AM (Joystiq)
That people in the US seem to have gotten so used to instant gratification, that some are willing to shell out more than 1000$ (770€ - just for comparison) is a bad, bad sign of the times.

1UP pulls Neverwinter Nights 2 review

Nov 4th 2006 11:39AM (Joystiq)
Is anyone else sick of every single gaming site not using the 1-10 scale properly? A 5 is average, it is in the middle of the scale, so it is average, not more, not less. Insetad, average games get a 7.3 to 7.9 - that's bullshit.

Why many sites like IGN or Gamespot insist on starting their scale at 6.8-7.0 is beyond me (not counting sponsor-ad thinking). "Everything lower than a 7 is shit" seems to be the mantra of those "journalists".

I'd say reset. Reset all those scores you gave in the past to more accurately make use of the 1-10 scale. what was before an "average 7" becomes a 5. Games over 8 are really great, and games getting more than a 9 are timeless classics.

It would leave much more space to differentiate between better games, and damnit, it would use that 1-10 scale more effectively and properly.

Industry professionals examine next-gen gaming concerns

Nov 2nd 2006 6:59PM (Joystiq)
The question that will decide the upcoming "console war" is the adoption rate of HDTVs. Once HDTVs are in the majority of gaming households, Nintendo's strategy has failed and MS/Sony will be proven correct with their massive HDTV/1080p/bigger is better/big development cost strategy.

But, that has to happen in the next 4 to 5 years (I expect this as the next-gen console life cycle, silly "10 years" comments of Sony notwithstanding).

Personally, I think there is no way that the current HDTV penetration of globally ~10 (US: 15%, Europe 9%, Japan 7% -- all +/-1%) can rise up to and beyond 50% in the next 4 years. 2011-2012, I guess.

That's the problem with such far out predictions - who knows how the gaming market will look like in 2012?

EA continues to exploit, charging $50 for Need for Speed unlockables

Nov 2nd 2006 4:48PM (Joystiq)
EA has been on that slippery slope for a long time - but they accelerated this development greatly in the last few months.
paying for cheats --> paying for in-game money --> (BF 2142 spyware interlude) --> paying for additional content that's already on the disc!

The next logical step will be extra cost for necessary content of the game... want to see the next level? fork over 5€/$. Want to see the final boss? 5€/$ thank you, here you go. ending cinematic? another 5€/$ right there.

We can't let it get that far. Vote with your wallets and send EA the message.

Presumably what you'll look like playing Zelda on Wii

Nov 1st 2006 5:46PM (Joystiq)

This is footage from the AARP event earlier this week (Or was it last week already?). No paid models faking glee etc. in an IKEA-furnitured living room - just someone who probably never played a video game before having _fun_ (see his smile?). That says much much more about the power of the Wii than any ads produced by Nintendo imo.

The PS3 in 23 simple facts

Sony moves to block PS3 imports to Europe

Oct 23rd 2006 6:36PM (Joystiq)
@ 31 Lex:

I am pretty sure anyone who imports a region-coded Japanese/US piece of hardware in(to?) Europe is quite aware of the consequences that purchase has (not being able to buy from local stores, having to import dvds, movies, games), so there's really no need to 'protect' the customer from not having the 'full functionality' or something.
What people over here (Germany, and I believe in Europe generally) really don't like though, is having the decision of 'importing or waiting' made for them.

In typical Sony-bashing fashion one could label it as just another blunder by Sony's PR department... But I consider it 100% intentional, to make the US and possibly japanese customers (do they get/read those press releases as well?) feel better about Sony and that they 'protect' the limited numbers of available units in their respective markets.
And while such a statement must surely be alienating more of Sony's European customers, Sony still seems to be of the opinion that Europeans are much more accustomed to being treated badly and it won't affect sales at all. (See the Europeans don't mind delay article etc.)

One can only hope that the European userbase is a bit more intelligent and has more self-control than to just suck all these humiliating statements up and prove Sony's PR department right by making the PS3 a hit. If we ever want to have the chance at being treated equally to the other 2 big markets (we ARE #2 in sales and #1 in population=potential after all) we'll have to show Sony that we do care about our treatment and how does the saying go? "vote with our wallets".
