Thanks for the info, I didn't know there was a Maemo OS and I forgot about Palms.

When I said iPhone I, obviously, meant a phone. But when I referred to the Droid, I did mean the Android OS. Which are, to my knowledge, the two biggest. Followed by Nokia's Symbian and WinMo. I'm not sure how blackberry fares these days.

To be fair, the iPhone and Droid are really the only two major smartphones right now. WinMo really doesn't have much oomph left in it until 7 comes out, it might gain a bit then.

I am a new iPhone owner, used WinMo 6 for the longest time.

WRUP: BBQ weekend edition

Hey! I'M ERIC!

WRUP: BBQ weekend edition

1LB Top Sirloin Steak, marinated in a little warm water with some onion slices in it, then sprinkled with garlic salt, a bit of normal table salt, pepper, roasted garlic, rosemary, and a touch of basely. Cooked over wood or charcoal and eaten with no sauce. Taste great too me :P

And I'm giving Vanguard: SoH a shot this weekend, along with EVE and maybe fire up Two Worlds again. Lots of going back places for me. I just Vanguard was the "One that got away".

The Daily Grind: One life, one death

If my favorite enabled it a separate server, I would give it a shot. Would I ever actually, seriously, enjoy playing a permadeath game? Hell no. Death in games has been crafted ever since Donkey Kong and Pac-Man as simply a punishment for failure. In MMOs we still fail, and we are punished with death. The question is, at what point does the punishment go to the point where removes entertainment value?

Permadeath.

I see no fun in leveling a character for 150 hours, getting him exactly how I like him, and deciding I want to actually take a little risk and have a little fun and then die and lose everything. I would quit the game. Why? Because it's stupid.

I have nothing against harsh death penalties. EVE has done it very well with their system and their style of game. I think that Darkfall and some of the other games that have gear loss upon death also have done it well. EXP debt is pretty lite but it's way better than just a corpse walk.

The death penalty really has to match the game. A total gear loss, like EVE, would work well for a fantasy game. I think Vanguard nailed it nicely. In VG you get some really annoying EXP debt, then you lose some of your stuff (equipped or not, gold is lost too) until you walk back to your tombstone or pay a good chunk of change to have it brought to you.

Believe it or not, a game is still a form of ENTERTAINMENT. Which means, although I should be punished for failing, it should never have me slamming me keyboard and totally quitting the game. That is not entertainment.

I think the harshest death penalty for a fantasy game that would be really neat, would be to have some kind of "Soul" system. So that when you die and aren't rezzed within say..... 24 hours, your soul is sent from the body and wanders some kind of celestial plane. Here you get to go and get a new body. Your soul though, keeps it skills and knowledge (see: level) and only forgets a little bit. Essentially, you would have to make a new character, but you would lose little in character development. I would say, one level up to half the cap and past that half of a level. You would lose all of your gear that wasn't banked though, and half of the gold you didn't have the banked. As for the character's name, it could change or you could use the same name and the game would a number corresponding to how many times you have died. I.E. if I was named "Nickelpat" and died once I would be "Nickelpat II" or if I died 20 times I'd be "Nickelpat XX".

Two Worlds 2 debut trailer pours on the drama

May 27th 2010 8:50PM (Joystiq)
I bought the first one and enjoyed way more than Oblivion to be honest. The change in universes was great for me, as TES always has a more realistic grungy type of thing going. Two Worlds goes with a more light, high fantasy one. And it looks beautiful. The animations are a bit meh, and the dialog and voice acting get 0 out of 10s (Seriously, they will say "Art though hungry for some cornmeal" in the WORST English accent ever). But the open ended, faster paced gameplay makes up for it. It's a brighter game that Oblivion for sure, although technically, artistically, content wise, and variation wise it is not nearly as good as Oblivion all around. I just enjoy the lighter style of it to Oblivion's more realistic.

It also has a very fun online mode, where you can get a room of a bunch of guys and quest. There's also arenas and stuff. It's very neat.

In the end, if you can find it somewhere for like 5-10 bucks. You pick it up. I bought mine for 20 and don't really regret it at all.

And as for the trailer, looks awesome, but I don't see an orc kicking a dude, I DO see a dude kicking an orc though.

One Shots: They do look like ants from here

It sure was a great time, thanks for posting my shot.

Rise and Shiny Recap: Face of Mankind

There was definitely some idiots, but a lot were taken out. I should point out, I played a while ago, before there was any premium stuff but it was still free.

I'm happy this is your job too, it gives us a look at a lot of games, rather than spending a month and getting an in depth review. In this economy, the more F2P games I know of, the better.
