PS3: component cables sold separately [update 1]
Oct 11th 2006 10:57PM (Joystiq)First it's $600. Pricey, but doable. Then it's the mpeg-2 for some BD movies debacle. Then it's BYOHDMI. Then it's not compatible with my universal remote. Then it's "game levels are 4GB, but we'll offer demos" (that will take 4 days to download). Then it's all of my favorite Sony titles are not exclusive anymore. Then it's no rumble.... Where does it end?
I think I'll take my earmarked PS3 $1,000 and buy the HD-DVD player for 360, a Wii and some games, a ton of HD-DVD's and a 7.1 THX receiver.
As an aside, I work in supply chain operations (sourcing, manufacturing, distribution) for a Fortune 10 company. If we had a 2 million unit order due in 40 days we'd be freaking out. If Sony's not shitting in their pants, they should be.

Jan 9th 2006 12:50PM (Joystiq)The 360, on the other hand, accesses memory and discs much faster. The PowerPC architecture uses "fatter" pipelines than intel or Cell chips. The PS3, via Sony's own admission, is an "entertainment supercomputer" that happens to play games. The 360 is a a badass game console that happens to do some media stuff.
If you're curious about the future of the PS3, look to the PSP. More movies on UMD than games by 10 to 1. Oh, and the movies cost $30!
