SSX begins UK race atop Mt. Retail
Mar 5th 2012 6:27PM (Joystiq)i have SSX 3, and it works on the xbox 360, but not in widescreen sadly. afaik, only the older phat ps3 can play ps2 games, but someone correct me if i'm wrong, i don't *yet* have a ps3. not sure whether i should pick one up at this point, or wait til ps4 likely in 2013.
Blizzard cuts 600 employees, most not in game development
Feb 29th 2012 5:48PM (Joystiq)Translation: as time simply goes by.
"...we've also had to make some difficult decisions..."
Translation: we decided we want more money.
"...in order to address the changing needs of our company..."
Translation: our shareholders also want more money.
"Knowing that, it still does not make letting go of some of our team members any easier."
Translation: i didn't have to fire them, but i'm pretending like i did, so i seem sympathetic, even though this was purely about cold hard cash.
SSX demo descends on Xbox 360 and PS3 next week
Feb 19th 2012 12:49AM (Joystiq)definitely, as soon as the demo comes out, i'm all over it. i get what you're saying that this is the first SSX to ever have online play, but it's been how many years since SSX 3 (The last good one, at least)? if they're keeping up with the times, well people are playing online now, so it should really be a focus, considering there's so much replay value there.
actually though, i'm more upset about local multiplayer. if it had no online component whatsoever, I'd be perfectly happy, as long as it had local multiplayer, or at least SOME multiplayer. I'd also be fine if they marketed this as a single player game.
I guess my problem is that they're making a big deal out of 'ridernet' like they did out of autolog on the NFS series, but this game has NO real multiplayer component at all. That's really surprising considering how much they're putting into this game. I'll have to wait for the demo to see if what they implemented is still worth it.
Either way, i'm definitely picking up. Only difference is now for $50-$60 or later for $20.
SSX demo descends on Xbox 360 and PS3 next week
Feb 18th 2012 2:51AM (Joystiq)'Ridernet' is like the single-player time-trial racing competitions in need for speed hot pursuit, but does not have the 'LIVE' online multiplayer component. This is what I recently read, although it would be great to try out the demo (hopefully combination of single and multiplayer races/trick events) and see if this holds true from what I've read, to ensure the game isn't all F-ed up.
It's also frustrating that the Mt. Fuji levels are PS3 only, and I don't (yet) own a PS3. That coupled with all the idiotic pre-order exclusives and the feeling that I'm "missing" something just because I got it from somewhere else or for a different console has soured me on this game and I LOVE ssx. My most played game (total combined hours) ever is for SSX 3, and tricky got tons of hours logged too.
Not sure yet whether I'll just wait for a price drop to where the detractors of the game are more palatable, or wait til all of their inevitable DLC is combined into a pack like most of their games. I'll also play the demo and wait for a joystiq review to make up my mind, because it is incredibly enticing.

Windows Live login suggested as Xbox Live security flaw
Jan 13th 2012 8:37PM (Joystiq)I had auto-renewal off and also was unable to remove my only CC number on my account.
I called Xbox Live Support to remove my credit card and tech guy said he can, but he'll have to cancel my xbox live gold subscription first to do it. After it's canceled, he said I can enter the codes he emailed me for xbox live gold to add back up to the number of months I had left on my subscription (19 1/2 months).
He emailed 5 codes, one for 12 months, 2 for 3 months, and 2 for 1 month of XBL gold. Entered them on xbox.com without a problem, and it actually added 2 weeks extra since I was in the middle of a month's subscription.
No problems, very easy, but ridiculous you can't do it online to start with.
