Wii's sold more than PS3 and is set to surpass 360 by Christmas, Saturn's sold more than 3D0 (who hasn't?), and N64 sold more than XBox, Gamecube and Dreamcast. So basically, you post boils down to "PS1 and PS2 had SNES type layouts."

This probably has more to do with how crap Bethesda's programmers are at optimising code. Also, I can't fathom why anyone would want to play Oblivion on consoles, where it can't be modded into a playable state.

How big (in MB) were the Saturn games? Can't see more than one fitting onto the flash mem. What they could do, is release freely downloadable ISOs, which contain the game in encrypted form, that you can download onto your PC and burn. Then they can just offer a small program on the VC which will decode the CD and let you play.
