I need the uttermost quiet in my house so the kids don't get freaked out by zombies.

Another look at Far Cry 2's amazing map editor

Oct 17th 2008 10:11AM (Joystiq Xbox)
With the Xbox map editor, you get a large flat square surface. As you move along that surface, you can raise or lower it. Then, you can place weapons, items, foliage, etc. on the map. As an example of what you couldn't do: you can't create something like a cave or a natural land arch because all you can do is lower or raise the land in any one spot.

With the PC version, you can create actual geometry. You can create things like that giant pyramid demosntrated, or even those giant statues.

Another look at Far Cry 2's amazing map editor

This trailer is featuring the PC version of the map editor, which is much more full featured than the 360 version. You can even see it in the trailer when they are editing in an obvious Windows application.

The map editor for Far Cry 2 on the 360 will be similar to the original version. You are allowed to edit a heightmap and place a bunch of objects in the map. While this is better than 99% of FPS's on consoles, it is nowhere near the editor that you get on the PC.

Microsoft's NXE storage solution: Free 512MB memory card or $20 for 20GB HDD

Oct 13th 2008 10:38PM (Joystiq)
I posted this over at Engadget too, and I'm hoping we can get this question posed to Microsoft somehow:

What about people who purchased a premium console, but also purchased a 64MB memory card so you could have a portable profile? Is the profile still going to fit on a 64MB card? If not, isn't it practically useless for what I bought it for?

I'd sure like to see them offer a free 512MB card to those who send in a 64MB card (if the profile can't fit on 64MB's anymore).

Microsoft's New Xbox Experience storage "solution": Free memory cards, discounted hard drives

I still haven't seen this addressed anywhere:

If you're using it as a media extender, you won't be using the DVD drive which is what causes most all of the noise. I'm using a Falcon system and it is pretty much whisper quiet except when the DVD drive is in use.

Ticket to Ride vs. Ticket to Ride vs. Ticket to Ride

Jul 3rd 2008 11:23AM (Joystiq)
Yes, you can play locally. It basically instructs individuals to look away on each person's turn so they can't see others hands. If your roommates are untrustworthy, I'd recommend getting the board game :-)

It should also be noted that unlike games like Bomberman, you can't take multiple local players online. I post this everywhere, but it's a shame that games with local multiplayer like Carcassonne and Worms don't allow this.
