Sony gets NYT to play Cpt. Obvious

Oct 18th 2006 4:43PM (Joystiq)
Whenever I see "developers hosting their own services" that screams to me that developers will eventually ask you to pay for their services to maintain their servers...

So, essentially the Sony online network is free, but you may have to pay EA, Ubisoft, etc...for them to upkeep and run their servers...

NYT: Wii to launch Nov. 19 for $250 in US [update 6]

Sep 14th 2006 9:27AM (Joystiq)
Controller attachments are more then likely going to double the price of the Wii...if you plan on having lots of friends over...

to have your friends and family play with you. Remember, the Wii is touted as an 'everyone' fun box..and about the only console that advertises four people playing it..

3 extra controllers - $120
3 extra nunchucks - $60
4 extra 'retro' - $80
Total cost for 4 - $260

Of course, this doesn't include any other controller add-on that Nintendo comes up with...

Granted, you don't HAVE to have 4 remotes, but the way that Nintendo advertises the Wii, you'll 'need' to play with 3 friends in order to have the most fun.

10 dollars more than the initial cost of the system.

3 extra wireless controllers for the 360 cost about $150.00

Even with just an extra controller (and to get the 'most' out of those controllers..)

The wii costs..

Wii console - $250
Extra retro attachment (x2) - $40 (more then likely going to be needed to play downloadable SNES and N64 games...)
Extra nunchuck attachment - $20
Extra wiimote- $40

Total cost is.... $350 dollars..50 dollars cheaper than the Premium 360...

Street Fighter II shoryukens XBLA Wednesdays

Aug 2nd 2006 11:32AM (Joystiq)
I woke up early this morning and played against a friend online.

This game rocks. I played it on the SNES just this past weekend, and the XBLA version blows it out of the water.

Now, if they just fix the D-Pad (I heard the madcatz controllers are awesome for it) I'd be straight :).

I've experienced NO LAG, until a guy from Austraila decided to play with us and it was hella slow...

other than that...all is well.

The 5 most difficult NES games

TMNT was incredibly hard...surprised that's not on the list...

I'd add Who Framed Roger Rabbit to the list as well...

That game was ridiculous...

What, the drones on G4TV 'splooged' about a massively hyped product? NO WAY!!!

If it's on G4 it's just another tally on their "I pleased _________, send us money to keep G4TV in the black..."

Virtual crucifixion punishes bad behaviour online

Mar 23rd 2006 9:28AM (Joystiq)
Wow...thats crazy. But, I applaud them for trying to make their game as realistic and historically accurate as possible.

My question about this though is...will the player, Cynewulf, have to start from scratch because in essence, his online toon would be dead. Or after 7 days will he magically come back to life fit and healthy for more ganking pleasure?

If he doesn't start over from scratch, I can see people PURPOSELY cheating so they can have the 'honor' of being crucified. A 7-day ban for cheating, ganking, exploiting, etc... is nothing if the player is allowed to start off right where they left off before the punishment.

If nothing serious is done about it, and the crucifixion doesn't strike FEAR into peoples 'hearts' the way it did 20 centuries ago, its just a gimmick.

"Play Roma Victor! You can be crucified with no worries!"

Rumor: Revolution to be renamed this Thursday

NE5 sounds nice...but wouldn't this be the 6th console for nintendo release? Or did we all just push the Virtual Boy out of our minds? It was 'geared' as a handheld, but it was more console than anything.

You think the PS3 is going to be any better when it debuts? I don't...and by the looks of the FIRST PARTY launch title that has pictures circulating around, it isn't any better. And, more than likely you'll be spending 450-500 dollars on that.

Step off the elitist plataeu and realize that when you set your sights on the moon, you probably won't get there.

Good graphics take time. Hell, it looks like were only finally seeing what the PS2 can actually do almost 6 years after it was released.

Xbox vets behind MSFT's portable game device

Mar 20th 2006 9:58AM (Joystiq)
The only thing that would sell me on a portable microsoft system would be that it would play xbox dvds. Yes, it'd be a bit big, but think about it...

You can buy a PSP, but you have to buy a proprietary format...and choose between what movie you want..the DVD version or the UMD version..and then you have to decide what crappy game you want to play inbetween (though, their recent offereings have been much better)

Now, if you had microsoft come in with a machine that played DVD movies and all of your XBOX games, without having to 're-buy' anything...that could sell.

It'd be a bit bigger, but I'm sure they could figure out a way to make it look smaller than it really is.

Hell, the fashion industry has being doing that with fat people for years :)
