1UP zings Neverwinter Nights 2 (again)

Nov 14th 2006 8:11PM (Joystiq)
I actually appreciate what 1-up is trying to do in terms of equalizing their ratings scale. EGM and GFW (or CGW as it was) were always fairly dependable in terms of how legitimate their opinions were. What I usually do with reviews though, is see how I agree with that specific reviewer. For example, I never read any of Greg Kasavan's (sp?) reviews because I've almost always disagreed with him. So instead of going nuts and ranting on the forums, I just decided to ignore his reviews. So people whining about a lower-scored review for a game that they actually like (see, whining about a game you haven't played is much less valid) makes little sense.

Nintendo's new Zelda falls flat

Wow I barely bothered to read all the comments before I posted mine...just too much flaming on both sides of the fence. I see where the article is coming from with all of his points, but I'm not going to sit there and bitch because he doesn't agree with my high expectations. One last thing, I don't remember seeing the "gameplay is more important than graphics" rational since the Wii showed up. I could be wrong in that respect, but we as gamers cannot just take whatever (insert favorite company) tells us to accept as "next-gen" or "completely mind-blowing" just because they say so. Nobody is going to respect you more for defending those points either like a brain-washed drone. This is why I think the author's point is more valid, because he's not taking anything way out of proportion. Just as well, there is a planned rebuttal of this argument, so everyone that doesn't like his opinion can probably agree with the other's.

Our PS3 arrives! Did we just brick it?

Towards the end of the video when he's just holding it with one hand I'm sitting here thinking "drop it! drop it!" just out of jealousy.

MLG goes FTW on USA TV [update 1]

Nov 3rd 2006 3:11PM (Joystiq)
Why did every single person sound the same while they were screaming? What the hell is so professional about them anyway? Back when I used to play pretty seriously I would just keep my mouth shut to keep the other person nervous and so that I'd have a steady concentration. May still be interesting though to watch though.

ScummVM update improves point n' click emulation

#4: I couldn't see why it wouldn't work on Supercard Lite. Most of the other apps I have aren't specifically programmed for it, just the Supercard in general.

How did you blow your NES cartridge?

Oct 29th 2006 3:45PM (Joystiq)
My current technique is just to jam the cartridge in and then jiggle it up and down until I was satisfied it was set right. Oddly enough abusing the crap out of the system and game works a bit better and I don't have to worry about ruining the game, although alcohol worked pretty nicely, when I used to have the patience to go and get the bottle and q-tips.

Joystiq hands-on -- Resistance: Fall of Man

Oct 24th 2006 9:52AM (Joystiq)
I'll give them credit over at Insomniac, they are confident as hell about their game. Just seeing how much they're showing it off makes me a little interested in their shooter, although still not interested in the PS3. My only real gripe with the game is that it doesn't seem like enough of a graphical jump to justify the power of the system. I know this is nit-picking but the ground textures look like crap. I mean if there's one thing that should look real as hell because it's what takes up the most space on level. I really don't care for the innovations in the guns department, because I do enjoy a bit of realism. If this was a few years after WW2, how in the hell did they develop this kind of stuff? Again, nit-picking but I'm entitled to it.

Wiimote vs. Sixaxis, Round 1: Downhill Jam vs. Project 8

Oct 23rd 2006 5:30PM (Joystiq)
Ok, basically I'm troubled to say anything good about the SIXAXIS controller just because I've found the entire design of that controller to be a little uncomfortable. The two sticks being next to each other never gave my thumbs much love, and it just wasn't erognomic enough. The motion-sensing part of the SIXAXIS looks like the best use I've seen so far, but it still looks like it's going to be a pain to get used to.

Now the Wii controller looks like it'll play alright, I've heard plenty of things to go against the sunlight problem. What worries me is how comfortable it will be to hold the controller in such a manner. Seeing as how many other games are designed to use the controller this way, I'll give some confidence that it won't be completely messed up.

In terms of the games, I'll give it to Project 8, mostly because I've never been a fan of the whole SSX-type of gameplay. I don't want another racing game, I want a skateboard title. I would actually have been curious to see them pull off a normal Tony Hawk title on the Wii, because judging from what little the PS3 controller did with motion, the Wii could build on so much. Project 8 looks graphically good, but it still seems to be the same game I played so many years ago. My favorite Tony Hawk title is still the second one after all these iterations, and it seems like this version will just go onto my Gamefly list.

Of course I'm buying niether system, since I've yet to get a 360, and I haven't played Halo 2 in a year.

Leo Laporte wants to rebrand podcasts as 'netcasts' - I agree

Oct 7th 2006 10:49PM (TUAW.com)
What Leo wants to do is trademark 'netcast' under a common group title, or something to that effect. Meaning that he won't just own the name, it will just pretty much reserve the name for the current 'pod'casters. I don't think he wants to make money off of this, just listen to his latest TWIT episode.
