Facebook users fight back against new Facebook applications

Jun 20th 2007 6:02PM (Download Squad)
Bah, people need to shut the hell up and stop whining. I'm sick of all this "It's going to turn Facebook into Myspace!" crap. Who cares if many apps are useless? It's an open platform, available to anyone with time and patience. If developers want to create "useless" apps, they have every right to do so. Facebook is a community site, and everyone has the freedom to create and use any app they want. All these people whining about Facebook turning into Myspace need to get off their high-horse. There's nothing elite about being on Facebook, so stop acting like you're better than those on Myspace just because you have a Facebook.

Has Sony failed to understand the casual gamer?

I think the terms "hardcore" and "casual" gamer are a load of bull. A gamer is a gamer.

Bungie's Betalicious Halo 3 video

May 11th 2007 4:06AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Honestly, I've never understood why people love Halo so much. It's nothing that hadn't been done before. Halo has, and always will be, a generic FPS to me. The levels may be huge, but they're empty and repetitive.

And why the hell hasn't Red Faction's "Geo-mod" feature become standard in FPS games?

How exactly is this going to prevent...uh....uhmmm....What exactly is this supposed to prevent anyway?

PS3 Poll Police: Who would you like to see take over Sony's PlayStation business?

May 7th 2007 8:20PM (Joystiq Playstation)
To all the people who think having Steve Jobs running the Playstation division would cause a price increase, you need to remember these things:

1. Steve Jobs has an incredibly loyal following, and if Steve Jobs has a part in something, these people will buy it regardless.
2. Steve Jobs is one of the best salesmen in the world. He could be selling a pile of dog shit and convince you that it's gold plated and that you absolutely must have it or you will die.
3. Even without his Reality Distortion Field, Steve Jobs is a very competent CEO. He managed to turn a company that was going bankrupt, with tremendous PR disasters as well as a huge product disparity, into one of the most successful companies in the world today. Not only that, but in the 80s, he saved Pixar by purchasing it from George Lucas and turning it into the largest 3D movie studio in the world. Jobs is a genius.

Although, I'd really love to see Steve Wozniak in charge of things. That guy is such a genius he could probably make the PS3 the size of the Wii, with the price point of the Wii. He's really good at making electronics efficient as hell.

However, that's completely unrealistic. If Sony wants to get the Japanese public back on their side and finish cleanup of the PR disasters of yesteryear, they need to have a JAPANESE person take over. Back when Nintendo was working on the CD-ROM addon for the SNES with Sony, they broke contract with Sony and went with a European company (Philips). A Japanese company choosing a foreign company over a domestic one is a big mistake when it comes to public relations. This is one of the biggest reasons Nintendo lost a lot of customers to Sony in the 90s, and as much as I dislike Sony for their ignorance towards their user base, Sony is an important player in the electronics world, and they need to start making a profit again.

As for Shigeru Miyamoto, he'd make a terrible CEO. He's an extreme perfectionist, and his attention to detail is the reason Nintendo delays games for years at a time, but is also the reason their games are generally huge successes. That kind of OCD perfectionism wouldn't work well in a position where one must make quick decisions and deal with high stress situations. He's a legend in the game design world, but he's not CEO material.

Anyway, there's my rant. If anyone should ask, I chose Steve Jobs for the reasons I stated above.

Video: new Tron tastes just like old Tron

They should have just ported Armagetron to the 360. I'd pay for that just to get the network functionality of Armagetron for Xbox Live.

Here we go again: Nintendo's success is bad for the industry

I'm gonna say to these whiney 3rd parties exactly what I say to whiny teenagers who think their life sucks:

Stop being emo. If things suck for you, do something about it! Otherwise, shut the hell up because we don't care.

Electronic Arts says: don't judge the PS3's price yet!

Apr 26th 2007 9:21PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Does anyone else feel that by saying price isn't holding the system back, that he's implying something else? Because the PS3 is definitely not selling as well as Sony had hoped, and if price isn't to blame, than what the hell is?

Why the hell is the Mac one an hqx file?
And why the hell is the Windows one an exe?

Has no one heard of zipping these files?
No one uses the HQX format anymore, and downloading exe files is one of the quickest ways to get a virus.

Both files should be compressed. It would reduce the file size (for the Mac one at least, since exe's are usually compressed already these days), and would also make the download safer for Windows users.

Pokemon pokes fun at Sony

I was playing Super Paper Mario the other day... or was it Rogue Galaxy? I can't tell anymore since I've been playing so many damn games lately, but one of the characters mentioned "hitting the enemy in its weak spot for massive damage"
