So is it going to become like Kingdom Hearts, where the first two titles come in with only like one spin-off in between, but then the third one doesn't drop until like 10 other spin-offs have "hyped" the big release?
My Twitter feeds take care of any need of G4 I'd need in terms of game/tech news and reviews...even if I was a DirecTV subscriber, it's not like I don't have alternatives that are on-the-moment.
That's just it though, you can't just say this genre is bad for this game. Look at Beatmania, it's got pretty much all genres a turntable can be involved in. DJ Hero just does a bunch of hip-hop and pop mixes. If you're going to rip off of an obscure franchise, at least try and pay it a little homage for the fans of said obscure franchise. The mainstream songs make it a mainstream title; the less known artists thrown in won't do anything to hinder that status. Honestly I want to see some Lights thrown in too...her music would be really fun to play if mixed with the right songs. If nothing else they can throw in the less popular artists in as DLC.
They really need to get some more techno and electronica in, or hell, less mainstream stuff in general. Nightcore, DJ S3RL, Pendulum, all the way down the list to artists I doubt anyone in Activision have ever heard of, all going to be ignored in favor of a bunch of pop artists who need to be remixed to sound any better than elephant flatulence. Depressing, really.
In a game like Dissidia, it doesn't really matter. Now for some people such as myself, reading Japanese isn't exactly what I'd call a barrier seeing as how I'm somewhat fluent in it. For others? If you're decent enough with browsing the Internet to find and download the game, chances are you can find a translation text file, or you can figure out at least how to get into gameplay without killing your PSP. It's a fighting game with fanservice written all over it. You don't need to know what's going on to enjoy it.
I understand it requires a lot of work, but that doesn't change the fact that the wait charges quite a bit of incentive to pirate. Say you have a PSP, and it's either already modded, or you can get it modded that week. You can either get it within that week at the latest, or wait an entire 6+ months for a localized version of the game. Bonus content, while noteworthy, doesn't change the fact that half a year prior to that version of the game being released, there was all sorts of reason to pirate it. By the time it released in Japan, we didn't even have an official confirmation it was headed our way, if I recall correctly.
Hard to feel sorry for Square. With their tendency to release games in Japan and wait upwards to a year before finally releasing them elsewhere, that's just asking for piracy. Not just because people don't want to buy the game, but also because they don't want to wait.
