Anyone remember the digimon franchise? I played the first digimon world game on ps1, and I still remember it as being one of the most memorable games I ever played as a child. Sure it had a storyline to follow, but for the majority of the game it took the backseat as the player was overwhelmed by the gameplay and immersed in the idea of exploring this world and training your 'mon. I just picked up diimon world dawn on ds last year and was very dissapointed. What had changed? They had ditched the previous gameplay elements that had made the series so memorable for an indepth storyline; and by taking away the freedom and players imagination that fueled the story, not vice-versa. I just hope Gamefreak don't make the same mistake, although do please, please, try something different with the series. Just heed these and many other examples as a warning.
I do however like the feel of making the game overworld in cities more lively and bustling, while small towns are cosier and more homely. Perhaps a few subplots within the game that give the player chances to discover and catch rare or hidden pokes. By the way, this is coming from a hardcore smogonite. Peace, :)
