@Gmail Calendar Rep I'm pretty sure Knight armor in Mass Effect and sci-fi armor and swords in Reckoning would not make sense without these "hoops." I planned on playing both demos anyways, as both games look fantastic, this is just icing on a very awesome cake. But people will find any excuse to complain....
@Ostentaneous Seeing and listening to that brought back memories, that was an awesome game with an awesome story (IMO). Dual-wield any weapons including rocket launchers and heavy machine guns while jumping around 20 feet in the air? Yes please. It is a shame the obviously planned sequel was never made, I wanted to know what happens :( Remember that $1million contest that they ended up not being able to pay for? 'Tis a shame...
@(Unverified) Not just that, but the map packs in CoD4 and 5 (and just about any other game) were $10, the only reason for the ridiculous 50% price hike per map pack was because they knew everyone would still buy them (hell, I did). And if I'm not mistaken, MW2s map packs went on to be the best-selling DLC ever. It's a growing, disturbing trend in gaming these days. If the people on my friends list like it and play it a lot, I might end up getting it used just so I can play with them, but that's it. I like the game (for the most part), I've had a lot of fun with it over the years, put I'm not going to let them price gouge me.
Also, I was unaware of the Gears 3 thing, that is saddening to hear, just another example of modern game companies caring less about the player and more about profit....
IMO, a lot of people seem to be missing something when it comes to their dislike of the series. The whole "ZOMFG ITZ THE SAYME THING AZ LAST TYME" argument has been beaten into the ground. If they released "the same thing" lets say, every two years instead of yearly. It would give them more time to make each entry an actual improvement over the last, and it wouldn't make all the overpriced map packs they put out useless merely months after release. The reason I resent the series so much is because I spent my hard-earned cash on every CoD and map pack since CoD4 (except Ascension), and each time the money I'd invest into an entry would be wasted with the next release. Any other online game, that DLC will last you at least twice as long because they take at least twice the time to produce a sequel. And not only will other games' DLC be usable in the current entry longer, they're cheaper. Lets Compare a MW2 map pack vs. the Gears 3 "Horde Command Pack"
MW2- 3 New Multiplayer maps, 2 old maps, $15. Gears 3- 2 New maps and the best map from Gears 2, new multiplayer skins, new weapon skins, new Horde features, and new achievements. - $10
The best part of the Gears option? Those maps become free for everyone a month later, and you can even play them now if you join a game being played on them, so if you don't care for the rest, all you want is the maps, you pay no extra. Another good comparison is the CoD Elite vs. Gears 3 Season Pass
Elite: All MW3 maps, but the new one comes out next year, so you'll likely never use them again after that - $50 Season Pass: All the maps, skins, Achievements, features, campaign levels, etc for the FIRST year of Gears 3, and you'll be enjoying them for a while - $30
I don't have a problem with the series itself, I have a problem with Activision asking for more and more money every year to get the complete experience. While having good sales is important, good game companies care about their fans and customers, not just the money.
@Copybass Ah jeez zombies Seriously, why the hell are gamers so whiny and ADD these days. Call of Duty 4 ver. 5 will go to sell billions (the game, the DLC, and Elite) despite being basically the same thing we played in '07, yet all these people trash Bioware and Bethesda, two of the best developers out there, just because they produced 1 game that didn't live up to the stellar quality of their previous work. I played the hell out of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 (hundreds of hours each), plus all the DLC for each, all on the Xbox, and had little to no problems with any of them, and the only thing that happened in New Vegas was a single quest i had to reset once. The reason I didn't like NV I don't even know, it just didn't hook me like the others did, not sure why. And honestly, the previously mentioned games are some of the most complex, content-packed, amazing games out there, it would take an act of god for anyone to release something as complex as a Bethesda game without bugs.
