Well, it appears IceFrog didn't work for ALL the companies making that kind of game. He got turned down by Riot...
I don't think Guinsoo and Pendragon are anti-Valve as much as they don't want Valve making money off their work. I can see the merit in this. Valve should make their own spin on that genre. It shows a lack of creativity to hire one of the "guys" who worked on DotA Allstars and then try to act like it's owned by Valve. Games like HoN, LoL and DemiGod are influenced by DotA but they are NEW games. Valve owes it to us players to not just port an old game with newer graphics. Make us a NEW Dota-esque game, Valve!
Wow. Just having a grayed out silhouette of the tops of the WTC is a pretty lazy way to get people to talk about your "art". I mean, that background graphic has nothing to do with the game play, it's totally slapped on. Nothing is flying into the towers and they don't collapse. It's just a cheap stunt. I think we should do what we would have done if that display didn't have that background graphic.. ignore it. Getting our panties in a bunch about it just gives the artist what they are seeking: publicity.
As for Taito's comment. I love how their response doesn't mention the negative reaction that people touched by that tragedy might experience by looking at it, and instead spend their time trying to beat their chests about their intellectual property. Good going, Taito. How much money did that I.P. make for you last year? It had to be at least 4 digits!
When you go to art school, you learn all the tricks artists use to shock the audience so their work won't be *gasp* IGNORED. I guess when you are working in a low-rez environment like this, twin towers are easier to render in the background than burning crosses or aborted fetuses.
I see they used 3 levels of 2D fluid dynamic sim fire/smoke. I pushed hard for that feature while doing the fire for Uncharted. ND told me I couldn't have that feature, but I'm glad the blokes at Media Molecule were willing to go that extra step. It really looks great, and I knew the PS3 could handle it. They need to put something on the sides of burning things, though, so you don't just see the 3 layers sticking out. I hope the players can catch on fire too. It could make for some cool puzzles where you have to act as a walking fuse. BRAVO!!!
This would work if it would compile the stats on Sunday and Monday and then Monday night use those stats to generate a fantasy matchup between two teams and then allowed you to watch your game unfold between your teams. You could watch your players do in the game what they did that Sunday. Heck, I'd watch every game in my League just to see how it goes. The trick is interleaving the stats so they happen somewhat close to their original timestamp in the real game without being ridiculous (like two 1 yard TD runs 10 seconds apart just because that's actually what those two players did in their real-life games).
Barring this kind of innovation, they aren't really bringing anything to the table that someone (like me) with a laptop and NFL Sunday Ticket can't already experience (and probably not even that much). EA, are you listening?
Warlords is still as fun as I remember. But he does have a point about the lack of a paddle controller. C'mon, 3rd party companies! Offer a 4 set of wireless paddles for under $25. It will open up XBLA to the proper experience of Arkanoid, Tempest and Tron.
I admit, other than thinking that this guy was the sickest fuck ever for doing this to an innocent little girl, I too wondered which controller he used to kill her, just as I wondered what kind of grape drink Jim Jones used to kill his followers at Jonestown (it was Flavor-Aid by Wyler's BTW, *not* Kool Aid as is so commonly reported).
I think we can rule out the six-axis right away. That thing is like styrofoam and that sick bastard would have died of a heart attack before he could have swung it enough times to kill that poor little girl.
I don't know if that state has the death penalty, but if they do, I suggest his form of execution be DEATH BY ORIGINAL X-BOX CONTROLLER. I think having it carried out "code red" style by those of us who are disgusted by his actions would be appropriate.
As for the mother. What can you say about someone who knows this has been happening and still IS happening and doesn't do anything to protect the welfare of her own flesh and blood. I hope she didn't spawn any other children. I hope she is prevented from spawning any future children, and I hope the only good that comes from this is that her DNA dies with her.
I remember when Medal of Honor owned the WWII FPS arena when Call of Duty came out. CoD didn't sell as well as MoH and many said it never would. It's funny how superior quality has a way of winning out in the end. That said, I think it was a mistake for Harmonix to release Rock Band for the PS2 unless it was compatible with the Guitar Hero controller. Everyone with a PS2 already had the guitar controller and those were the people buying GH3 in droves. They only wanted to buy a game, not a new controller. Harmonix should have released Rock Band for PS2 so the GH controller would work with it, and then sold the drums and microphone seperately. They would have done a heck of a lot better than 30,000 copies compared to 3.6 million for GH3.
