I laughed so hard when Ira appeared in the suit that I had to rewind just to here what he said. That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV, but I'm a pretty big Ira Glass fan.
@Space: It's not a big deal to not be able to resell your game if it is already heavily discounted on Steam or some other digital distribution system.
This sucks, but if they somehow allowed reselling digital games it would be a disaster. It would be way to easy. There's no risk of being ripped off, so the whole system would become like a lending library with everyone charging like a $1 or something. Or just trading games. Either way, no money for the creators. Reselling of physical games doesn't have this problem since it so less efficient.
@OzCueball: If it is a "Steam game", all you are really buying is a code to install it on Steam. It is then locked to your account, and you cannot re-sell it. If you sold the box and disk to someone they could not install the game.
This is about the only thing that still sucks about Steam. I don't mind not being able to re-sell a game when I only pay $10 or $20 for it.
Space had a good point. Some people do like the maps. I don't agree with them, but I don't see why he gets downvoted. If he gets tons of fun out of the map pack, then it was a good value.
There may be a working crack, but this style of DRM could get increasingly hard to crack. The more actual game assets and algorithms that they hide server-side, the more difficult it will get. They really just want a few weeks, or maybe a couple of months with no piracy, and they've almost achieved that already. They really could accomplish this goal.
Of course, in the meantime they will be driving many legitimate customers (like me) away. Seriously, I'm not PC-fanboi who hates on AC2 just because it such a console-style game. I liked AC1, and would really like to play AC2, but I'm not touching Ubi (on any platform) until this is long gone. Even then, it'll be bargain bin for a long time.
