WD TV-2 spruces up Western Digital's already attractive media player offering
Aug 25th 2009 2:57PM (Engadget HD)I have full 1080p network support, RSS feed and weather all displaying to my WDTV 1
My guess is WD took the best ideas from the modified firmware and incorporated it into wdtv2
Microsoft execs tag-team PS3's online service
Jan 10th 2007 7:14PM (Joystiq)PS3 core $500
20 GB hard Drive (included)
Hi-Def media player Bluray (Included)
Wireless controller (included)
Rechargable Battery + Charge cable (included)
HDMI
Component Cable ($20.99)
Xbox 360 Premium ($400)
20 GB hard Drive
HD-DVD addon ($179 additional)
Wireless controller (included)
Rechargable battery + Charge kit ($34 additional)
HDMI (not available)
Component Cable (included)
Now I realize not everyone wants or needs them, but it's definately a more accurate portrayal.. Why is somethat that has a difference of less than $100 always being touted as $600 and expensive.
In fact if you take the $600 premimum PS3 and compare it with what it would cost you to upgrade your Xbox premimum it costs more.
Premium Xbox 360 $400
HD-DVD add-on $179
Wifi adapter $89
Charge + play kit + battery $35
= $705
And you don't have the SD media reader and the extra 40 gigs of disk space.
Again granted not everyone wants it all but for those who do, looking at hardware features and costs, it's not as unbalanced as the press always reports.

PS3's Genji uses HDD to quarter load times
Oct 21st 2006 2:28PM (Joystiq)Remember Xbox1 - Microsoft pre-set a certain amount of space for game caching, and you had no control over that, and the space was instantly lost. So what is the problem here, Sony gives you a choice.
Xbox 360 - well because the hard drive is not standard, developers are more limited with what they are able to do (many interviews indicating this) so as a result of the CORE decision, MS gamers lose out.
PS3 - Hard drive standard gives the developers more options, and genji is giving the players the option of reducing load time, how is that bad? If you read, it's a feature, not forced.
This is also an example of 1 game out of a launch of 21 games.. No-one said that this will be all games, or that all games require this. My guess is many games will take advantage of the HD to cache data while you play, to help speed things up and reduce the seeking on the optical drive.
I really don't see how anyone can start to complain about this optional feature.. you don't like it, then don't install it. I own a Xbox360 and I like it, but yeah on game games i kinda wish I had the option to cut down some load times, would I be willing to sacrfice some space on my Xbox HD to speed up the game I'm currently playing or my favorite game.. I probably would, If you would rather play slower and reserve space for other downloads, all the power to you. but no need complain here about it.

Oct 21st 2006 12:09PM (Joystiq)PlayStation Network: ready for launch? [update 2]
Oct 15th 2006 12:13PM (Joystiq)We might all be jumping at what was said in the interview text. Lets wait and see how it works out. I don't think someone like EA is going to release a demo on xbox 360 for free, and charge for it on PS3.. They want to get that demo to everyone possible to increase their game sales.
PlayStation Network: ready for launch? [update 2]
Oct 15th 2006 12:07PM (Joystiq)While I'm don't know the specifics of the deal, but everywhere I read that the 2 parties couldn't come to an agreement over a common platform. I do however know that the proposal was to use Blu-ray's technology for it's superier capacity, and Toshiba's Security for it's superiority. Both companies couldn't come to the agreement here, and the consumers suffer.
eBay's PS3/Wii auction cancellations are a good move
Oct 15th 2006 12:02PM (Joystiq)You can't base arguments on assumptions like that.. Lets assume there is a regular post-grad who's been playing games for 20 years, who had to work on pre-order morning, goes and buys it on ebay for $1000, how is that person any different than you? Not all of the ebay'd ps3 are going to spoiled rich kids, thats an unfair statement to make.. In the end it's the hardcore guys who will wake up early and the ones who pay higher prices on ebay.. People who want the console will get it this christmas via whatever means they are willing to accept. One person stands in line early, another who either can't stand in line (work) or would rather pay a $300 premuium not to do that.
PlayStation Network: ready for launch? [update 2]
Oct 15th 2006 2:38AM (Joystiq)I guess it'll be no different than the obscene webcam pictures that are being sent out to random gamertags on the Xbox Live network.
These things will happen, and the companies will respond.
