@gevenstaines I see what you're saying, but I'm pretty sure the 'it' was meant as an impersonal pronoun, not to refer to 'life'. So I think the intended meaning could be rephrased as "I know life seems really hard, but nothing of importance is easy."

Bit of a drastic rephrasing, admittedly, but I think it conveys the same message. Side note: If he wanted clarity of phrasing, maybe he shouldn't have lifted the line from Pokemon movie lyrics?
