MS loses 360 manufacturer

Mar 26th 2007 9:40PM (Joystiq Xbox)
These news stories spin everything...

MS is playing the manufactures off against each other. They are after ~10% cost reduction in components every quarter. Celistica are taking up the slack of Wistron.

Australian PS3 launch underwhelming

#67 to Psaakyrn,

Yah i know, hell 2L of coke is usually cheaper than 600ml bottle. Check the little fridges near the checkouts for the ones i mean. Tried to pick a product most people would be familiar with.

99% of the time the Pepsi / Schweppes (sp?) 1.25L bottles are dirt cheap at less than $1

Australian PS3 launch underwhelming

Mar 23rd 2007 12:33AM (Joystiq)
Ok people, just a few things.

The minimum wage rate in Australia for an adult (21yrs and above) working full time is $AU13.27 This is $US10.69 at todays rate.

The $AU999.99 price of the PS3 here includes a 10% GST Tax. It is illegal in Australia to quote a price without including ALL applicable taxes and charges.

For comparasin sake, the average 600ml Coke will cost you around $AU2.30 from a supermarket

From all this i hope Sony change the way SCE does business. Give us what we want, not tell us what we need.

New Aussie GoW Xbox 360 pro bundle

Story is that the back is mostly to have something on the shelves for March 23rd release on PS3.

For $300 less than the PS3 you can have a 360 + game....so the story goes

The MSM responds to Microsoft's HD announcement

Nov 9th 2006 1:17AM (Joystiq)
I dont see why Sony Pictures would be so worried about distributing through microsoft.

Its my guess that sony pictures operates mostly independently of Sony computer entertainment, and to them distributing through another product would just be another revenue stream.

Certainly if SCE are thinking that making Sony picture stuff exclusive will sell PS3's i think they are mistaken

360 Splinter Cell: Double Agent at 1080p? Ubisoft: yup [update 1]

Oct 19th 2006 5:01AM (Joystiq)
EdZ, deinterlaces are relativly cheap single chip solutions these days. In fact the samsung "TrueHD" blueray player decodes, processes, and outputs in 1080i and theres a little deinterlacer just next to the HDMI port to deinterlace it to 1080p24...which btw i argue is a complete waste of money considering the HD video signal can be sent over 1080i30 without loosing a single pixel of info.

Personally, i run a Dell 2405FPW and i find that native 1920x1080 images from my computer, although sharper...dont look as good as the 1280x768 image the 360 sends simply because the effort has been put into lighting/particle/etc effects instead of phat textures

Rember folks from a few meters away your going to struggle to see any more detail in textures and whatnot. Id rather see the effort go into other things.

Sony Australia: Wii "a bit pricey"

Oct 10th 2006 8:20PM (Joystiq)
@ Scott

I suggest you check the value of our currency before making uneducated claims as you have. At the time of writing $AU buys 0.7447 $US. Which is damned good for a country of 22M or so.
Also remember is it against our law to advertise the price of something without including ALL applicable taxes (as opposed to the US). So these prices include a 10% GST, add to that the massive shipping costs of our country and really...the prices are too bad.
