Joystiq's Top 10 Games of 2008
Jan 1st 2009 12:48PM (Joystiq)The mystery of Assassin's Creed's exclusivity
Jun 26th 2006 2:31PM (Joystiq)----------------
"So why the secrecy? Considering their comments and their history as a multiplatform publisher, Smith whittles it down to one of two things:
* Timed exclusivity: With the loss of timed exclusivity of the money-printing GTA series, Sony might be angling to fill their stable with some more exclusive content, if only for a little while (6 months?).
* Exclusive rights: That means Sony put up the cash to keep Assassin's Creed out of Microsoft's grubby, GTA-fondling mitts (and off Peter Moore's other other bicep)." -from the article that apoc6 commented on
Before you start throwing fanboy spit all over you comments, at least read the article you are commenting on.
Just to throw some history on y'all, the EXACT SAME thing happened to Splinter Cell 1 for the Xbox 1. It was only announced for the Xbox, stayed on the Xbox for 6 months, and was then announced and released on the PS2. What company made Splinter Cell?
UBISOFT.
MotorStorm, Resistance and more: pictures from Sony's GDC keynote
Mar 25th 2006 1:05PM (Joystiq)From a purely graphical standpoint, F1 looks as good as PGR3, GRAW looks better than Resistance, Warhawk looks meh, the vehicle dynamics pics make me think of a sopmewhat prettier Full Auto, Motorstorm doesn't even come close to the CGI video, Getaway looks really good for a free-roaming game, and Ratchet & Clank looks amazing.
Hopefully these pics will help show people that there isn't such a great power divide between the 360 and PS3. There will be great games on both systems, and people will have a great time with both. Perosnally, I have a 360 and will probably get a PS3 when the price drops for all of the exclusive titles.
Upcoming Sega title to require 360 HDD
Feb 7th 2006 10:19PM (Joystiq)I remember one time I was at Blockbuster and I saw one of The Sims games for Gamecube and there was a sign on the box that said "this game requires a memory card 251 to play." The Sims has a lot of data it has to save, and the amount of data was just too much for the default mem. card.
It's as simple as that. The save is too big for the memory card, so the save HAS to be stored on the HDD. Simple as that. Nothing wrong with the 360 here, move along... From a neutral perspective (I'm no fanboy), you Sony fanboys seem like you are attacking everything slightly off that MS does, you're almost as bad as the Republicans for god's sakes...
PlayStation 3 pr0n, nothing of substance
Jan 9th 2006 11:07PM (Joystiq)You are right. There are a couple of exceptions (the HDD and wireless controller on every system, tons of units on launch day) but Microsoft delivered on basically everything else they promised. As for people (fanboys, I hate throwing that term around but I have to now) saying that the 360 isn't next-gen, what proof do you have of this? What do you have to compare it to to make the 360 not next-gen? The PS3, which of now doesn't exist? The non-gameplay MGS4 trailer(which wouldn't look as good as PGR3 in in-car view if Bizzare was given a month more to fix aliasing)? I keep hearing on these comments that things about the PS3 aren't finalized, (online service, controller, etc.) so how do you know what the PS3 really is now? As of now, it is just some pretty CGI from E3, an "unfinished" system and controller design, the MGS4 demo (Kojima said it could be done on 360 just as easily), and , uh... At least the 360 was, for all intents and purposes, done being designed before E3, 6 months before launch, not having massive design changes a couple of months before its "spring" launch.
I think it's just silly to say that one thing is horrible when comparing it to a thing that, for most parts, doesn't really exist yet. I have a 360 and it's been the most fun I've had in gaming for a while. I'm not a fanboy, I'm just calling them as I see them. So far, Sony has nothing real that is impressive to me at all over the 360. They did these same cheap hype tactics for PS2. Remember Toy-Story quality graphics and the PS2 being like jacking into the Matrix? They are doing the same thing here, albiet to a smaller degree.
If PS3 somehows pulls it off, and all the games are better and the services are superior to 360, then I will happily convert to the PS3 side, but I seriously doubt that will be the leaps and bounds above the 360 that people are saying it will be.
All I'm saying to all you ignorant Sony fanboys is that when the PS3 launch titles are finally revealed, and they look slightly better then the 360 launch titles, if that, and the 360 titles look much better by then, just remember that Kashmir told you so.
