Federal Magistrate allows Sony to look up visitors to GeoHot site

Late to the party, I know, but certain multiplayer games (including COD) were basically unplayable before Geohot released the exploit. You don't have to hack the PS3 to hex edit your game save, and that's all it takes to mess with poorly written games. The developers tried to leave the security on their game discs alone, and none on THEIR multiplayer servers. PC game devs and Microsoft owned servers have methods similar to PunkBuster anti-cheat measures on their servers. For years this has been the preferred method of controlling MP games because the servers themselves are easily updated and reconfigured as game exploits are found. The worst part is that whoever hosts Infinity Ward's servers has the ability to implement security checks, but hasn't. GeoHot is just the household "favorite" hacker on the internet right now. So he gets blamed.

Nice complaint about Flash not being open. Apple doesn't like Adobe because it is wants to be the only closed platform. For a one time fee you can use flash for whatever you want, as many times as you want. To develop for I devices, you pay one time for the sdk toolkit, and then again every time you want an app approved. And you pay everytime you sell an app. And you "have to" sell through the app store, unless you're selling to the jailbroken audience. Flash has security issues...but obviously so does the ipod OS. Bottom line is the two companies don't get a lone, and Apple is waiting for the new HTML rev. If people stay patient, it seemingly will be worth it. But what happens when web games designed for html5 are released on the apple store as apps? Will Apple be afraid people will find the inconvenience of bookmarking free webgames more valuable than a built in 1.99 or 4.99 native app?

PSP Go refused by game retailer as Blockbuster fiddles

I think a big thing for me is when I buy a UMD, the game is actually MINE. Let's say I buy a game off of PSN and then for whatever reason (censorship, trademark dispute, complaints, whatever) Sony decides to pull the plug. Even if I get a refund on my Wallet or whatever it's called, it was mine to play and Sony can "turn it off" in an instant. Other companies have done it. What if I didn't have high speed internet and enough cards to hold all my games? I either have to buy enough cards in order to hold my games (which virtually adds cost to the games) or find somewhere to redownload them. Or I buy a game when the GO comes out, download it, beat it, and replace it with something else. 3 years down the road, it turns out I want to play that first game again, but it didn't sell too well, so Sony decides not to carry it anymore. It's mine, I paid for it...? Everybody thinks when you buy software online, you have access to it whenever you want, but if the license holder shuts it down, they don't have to keep it available.

Xbox Live Vision camera, Racing Wheel, Wireless Headset coming this fall

Bridge, Webcams have been around for years. Assuming you're typing on a computer of some sort. Sony wasn't exactly original on that idea either. Or on the idea of using more than 2 controls. Or on the idea of being disc based. Or on the idea of having a hard drive. Or on the idea of releasing "new" smaller versions of older systems. There is nothing wrong with using someone else's ideas, it happens in every industry in the world. If it didn't, there would be no innovation.
