How'd "the people" work out in Russia anyway?

Warner's DVD2Blu trade-up program gets bigger, cheaper (maybe)

Yeah, but that was better because you kept the disk for use with your old player. I need the DVDs for our family roadtrips in the minivan.

Ask Engadget HD: How do I take my home theater to the next level?

They make a loveseat style with no center arm. That's what we use.

Windows Home Server 'Vail' beta now available for download, brings improved UI and streaming options

Apr 26th 2010 4:11PM (Engadget)
I just hope that they've finally fixed the data issues. I've been dealing with massive file corruption issues for two weeks now. All hdd's pass diagnostics, and everything works.... Until you put files on the hdd's. Why can't the server either work properly or properly report the error? What's up with losing files while having folder duplication on?

Patent Office rejects some of TiVo's patent claims, battle vs. DISH to rage on

They really need a new box with the ability to do Networked Media Tank type streaming from Windows Home Server, the usual recording duties, and have an open source GUI development with in house control of the kernel and an "official" GUI that they push out with kernel updates. Let the horses run.

PS, the new box should have an actual processor and Gig Ethernet. They sell millions of these, it's not like they can't just use an AMD or Intel low end x86 or even x64 processor and off the shelf chipset. Give us a box with some headroom and let us loose.

HDTV Listings for July 25, 2009

Jul 27th 2009 4:41PM (Engadget HD)
It was the only show on TV worth watching this summer. Well, at least I'll have another hour of free time every week now.

as a PS, I'm never starting an NBC show until the second or third season again. American Dreams, Friday Night Lights, Jericho, Kings...

I think the ratings are wrong on these shows because they're not accounting for DVR or something. There's no way that more people are watching "Reality Chick Meets Dude Version 1306B" than the shows listed above.

Wal-mart rolls back cheap Blu-ray player price to $98

I have an HDA2 for HDDVD and upscaling DVD's. This is perfect for doing nothing other than transporting a bluray bitstream to my receiver (which repeats it to my projector).

This is big for blu-ray. I'm still not sold on the idea of buying beta products at retail (i.e., bluray in general), but I'm in with this.

MSNBC HD launches on DISH Network

Maybe you'll be able to see the thrills and shivers running up his leg when the messiah speaks.

Although I'm not sure that's worth paying to see...

Ruling lets DISH customers keep their DVRs for now, TiVo says it's just a matter of time

Jul 2nd 2009 3:48PM (Engadget HD)
Filed in 1995.

Really? It was that obvious back in 1995?

Dish's team of lawyers couldn't find anything to prove how obvious it was back in 1995, but you can? As they say, put up or shut up.

TiVo HD upgrade program helps you save as much as $100

Jul 2nd 2009 3:43PM (Engadget HD)
lifetime service exists. Just click on that option after you select your DVR. It's 399.99 right now, so if you buy a refurb HD, it's 500 total. If you use this discount, it's 400. Totally worth it if you've ever owned a TiVo.
