Activision shuttering Budcat, downsizing California QA team

Nov 16th 2010 6:09PM (Joystiq)
Activisions killing spree is horrendous today. Well I guess we can wait until next Christmas to see what they do with the new Modern Warfare team. They're killing anything with a morsel of talent these days.

LG's Application Store launches in places you don't live for devices you don't care about

@Engadget Any chance of holding a press conference to sort this out? You know there's nothing that can't be fixed by handing out free bumpers

@Fantastica Guys I think the original article is a little smug and I would imagine after the comments Engadget will be a little smoother next time. Maye Ricker has an LG phone as pissed of at LG not supporting the US? Anyway the only asshole is that DefPoet guy, I doubt he is representative of the other US centric readers. I don't see anyway one jumping in defend any of his ridiculous claims.

@DefPoet Jesus Christ we get it. You're not happy about Engadget serving non-US readers. It must really rub you up the wrong end to find out the word internet is a bastardization of 'International Network' slapped together. Emphasis on 'International' there. Also I respected you issues with local and used a 'z' in 'bastardization :)

Xbox 360 '4GB Arcade System Bundle' spotted on Amazon Germany

Jul 14th 2010 4:25AM (Joystiq)
@Lerkero

Thats not entirely true. The loss of of so much data on the hard drive was due to the emulator for the Xbox original. If you think about, NXE is capable of running on the earliest of sytems even when the hard drive is removed. Those machines had 64MB of non-usable flash storage.

As a Jasper Arcade owner I can tell you that you get about 450MB of free space after the NXE installation and its reservation memory are used up. Id be surprised if there was anything less that 3.5GB on these new arcades

Xbox 360 'Slim' priced, dated for UK

I hear ye, that demo sucked me in and tells me there is some ground for the core gamer but as of now Microsoft are obviously concerned with the newbie/ casual audience. I hope its expansion of the platform and not an attempt to convert it.

So my powers of mathematical conversion conclude that Kinect will be £99 (based on US pricing at $150).

I know I am assuming that Microsoft would apply a 33% conversion rate across accessories($ to £)- but it seems likely in my opinion,

Sigh, if this is the case for Kinect I'm out. £70 would have been my upper limit but based on what was on show the games don't appeal to me and don't scream £99 investment. Pitty I had many a hope for it. Perhaps later.

THQ introduces its own 'Online Pass' in UFC 2010

Yeah it would be wrong to make such early assumptions. However if the second hand market does tank, there could be some major advantages. Imagine buying Bioshock 3 or Assassins Creed 3 for the single player only. You could get them at a handy price, I would gladly do without the multi player on titles like those

What is worrying about the way the big publishers are heading with these 'online passes' is that it can only get worse. $5 now for second time users is not much. But as Xbox Live I must buy points in excess of $5 first. What if (when) publishers decided that $10 or $15 is the new rate?

All I can say is worst case scenario is with a Call of Duty: New Release Title. Paying for online pay as a second hand purchase, possibly on top of the cost of maps. Lets not forget this generation of games had a 20% increase in RRP already.

Shit I need to renew my XBL subscription!

However if the second market reacts with lower prices to reflect the sate of their product I have no problem with this... but I'm merely hoping.

O2's UK network hung up, just like the Parliament -- were you affected? (Updated with O2's response)
