How ridiculous is it to have a $900-$800 price tag on a games console. that means it will be $1400NZ for me.
Does anyone know how much it will cost this poor guy to own a ps3? and also how much the average wage is for indians?

I am seriously doubting how the ps3 will cope with a flood of xbox360s coming to market in the very near future.(reported to be a matter of weeks).
i know there is a small part of the market that would be able to afford hardware and games for both consoles...and there is another slightly larger part of the market that would buy the ps3 if it were a giant sausage meatloaf with the cell chip inside.
However, majority of the market are those who will only ever buy one console because buying games and accesories for one console is enough.(usually mums and dads who are on a budget, or who just dont see the need for two consoles in the home...)
If these one-time buyers all of sudden have access to an xbox360, M$oft just might be able to wrestle market share away.
the only way sony would win the console back from that situation, would be to produce a system that is not of of this earth, which was how it was originally marketed by sony.

blu-ray - an uncertainty in the industry - is to become central to the ps3. HD-DVD is to be an accessory in xbox 360 (maybe even blu-ray will become an accesorie in future if it is succesful.
hints of astronomical hardware costs ($1800 stand alone blu-ray player vs $500 stand alone HD-DVD)if this is a clue as to the cost of these drives, then maybe microsoft were right in using dvd.
no online service for sony announced thus far, so no competition for microsofts xbox live marketplace.
backwards compatability an uncertainty in ps3...backwards compatibility garunteed for some of the games.
no finalised game demos, controller or console...all being target demos and prototypes.
all of these factors..plus the lack of communication over these issues from sony...hint at trouble in the home. If I were a sony investor...i would be worried, i I were a microsoft investor I would feel a little more confident despite the problems and bad press over the xbox.
