We hear you, no more Wii at the inn

Nov 19th 2006 4:28PM (Joystiq)
Got to my local Meijer at noon on Saturday to get one of the last slots they had (17 total). Walked out at 12:30 with a Wii, Wiimote, Nunchuk, Zelda, and Monkey Ball. They had 15 controllers and 15 nunchuks come in.

So far, only one friend owns a 360. Another almost bought one, but went for the iPod instead.

@ShiftUp - Part of me is curious why he thinks they look stupid. The rest of me wants to beat him for such an amazing lack of art appreciation.

And am I the only one here that actually bought Okami? That's depressing. The game looks great and the gameplay is quite fun. If you're a fan of action RPG games, I really suggest you go get Okami.

Top 10 gaming myths

"#1 is not a myth.

Sorry guys. The writing's on the wall"

The *HYPE* is on the wall. If you honestly think the PS3 will fail, you're sorely mistaken. The price will slow its adoption, but not kill it. I, like many here I'm sure, do plan on buying a PS3... just not at launch. Maybe 2 years down the line I'll own one.

"PC Games are Doomed"/"PC Copy Protection is Too Onerous"

If PC copy protection schemes stay as draconian as they are, then yes, PC games are doomed. They are why I don't buy PC games anymore.

Rumor: Black and Pink DS Lites coming in September to U.S. [update 1]

Aug 24th 2006 7:10AM (Joystiq)
Hopefully this is true. The pictures of the black DS Lite make it look awesome. Friend of mine got one while in Europe and said it looks really good (he lives 2000 miles away so I can't see it).

I managed to sell off my phat DS to my boss. Wonder who I can pawn sell my white DS Lite to...

"Wasn't there a game released a while ago that was famous for shedding its Starforce protection because they said that the game was worth buying?"

I hadn't heard of this one. I'd love to know which one did this. Are you sure you aren't confusing this with Ubisoft, who has pledged to stop using Starforce for future releases?

"Even after a Starforce employee posted a link to a torrent of the game in retribution..."

This was done to Galactic Civilizations 2, if memory serves. I remember the debate was mostly centered on the fact that the game sold well even though it had no CD copy protection. The link was posted to "prove" it was still being pirated. It was done out of spite.

"You have no right in experiencing the game if you didn't pay for it."

So borrowing (legal) games from friends is a no-no, because I didn't pay for it? Gotcha.

"The whole Starforce/SecuROM/SafeDisc compatibility issues have turned me, and my hard earned money..."

This is the exact reason I don't buy PC games anymore (and I don't pirate them either, before you ask). The copy protection schemes are horribly draconian. You want to dictate what other software I have installed? Piss off. You want to completely take over my CDROM drives? Fuck you.

My GC/PS2/DS libraries are expanding at quite a fast pace since I'm not spending money on PC games anymore.

PS - Message to the PC game developers: Quit using these bullshit schemes. You're killing yourselves with them. Piracy has nothing to do it.

PSP firmware 2.80, the aftermath

"...be naming folders ULUS4576 or something like that. It's not too hard, but not everyone thinks like a computer programmer."

That name format is the product code scheme Sony uses, dating back to the PS1. The letters indicate region, and likely platform (not sure on this one). I've not seen "UL" before (was it SL maybe?), but "US" indicates US region. 4576 is their code number for whatever title you have.

It's definitely a silly system for users to be forced to use.

Game sales down 10%, DS Lite to sell 500k units in 10 days

"Nintendo never releases black to the United States. Never.

We might get "charcoal" or something, but true black is ALWAYS kept out of American markets for some reason."

If you want true black, import it. The DS is completely region free. Yeah, it costs more, but if you want something that bad...
