Wii Classic Controller hack fixes wire issue

Dec 23rd 2006 1:28AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Yeah I'm not getting why everyone's knee-jerk reaction to the controller is "the wire shouldn't come out of the bottom." Obviously the designers did it for a reason, that being the fact that you are going to have the remote near you for the most part (As already pointed out.) It was a little bit odd on the Dreamcast, but then they did provide a little clip for the wire to go out of the top of those controllers.

Even then I can't see how it just SO annoying that you need to 'mod' your controller.

Wiimote busts a cap in TV set

If somehow real, I think that's more a testament to the toughness of the remote than anything.

Gears: The never ending (commercial) story

Nov 30th 2006 11:21AM (Joystiq)
Uh I believe that was Donnie Darko, rather than Dark. And its a great song and all but I was never really thrilled at how it worked in the commercial. Also note that this rendition is a remake of the Tears for Fears song that was done for the Donnie Darko soundtrack, if my memory serves anyways. But I'm sure you all already knew that.

Crooks tie up victims with power cord whilst stealing PlayStation

Nov 29th 2006 4:23PM (Engadget)
The hilarious thing is, if Sony has repeated history, the PS3 still used that same old power cord that has been on most of their consoles and other products for years, and is available pretty much anywhere. So oh well if they left it behind.

To buy or not to buy: Virtual Console review roundup

Nov 22nd 2006 4:13PM (Joystiq)
For me 'playing roms off the net' is nowhere near the experience of playing with an actual console on my sofa just like old times. I still will only be getting VC games very sparingly though.

Losing your inhibition (Wii delight #002)

One comment on the novelty thing:

At least with Wii Sports I think that can continue to be fun for a long while not only because of the social aspect of it, but also, at least for me, each game has layers of complexity the more you play. It will take a long time for me to hone my bowling skills, for example. The boxing is strategic and I still have a lot to learn there. The skill level thing is really quite awesome, I think, as you can easily gauge the skill of other players and continue to improve your skills single player if you want to. Also the fitness and training parts make for something you can play a little bit regularly for some time.

Red Steel to me just relies on the control scheme to be worth playing at all, so I can see that being no good after a while, but Call of Duty 3 really showed me that, with practice, first person shooters can be really fun on the Wii. I think I would get bored with the control scheme there as fast as I would with mouse and keyboard, which I never did get bored with. After a while the pointing a shooting thing gets automatic, which to me mirrors mouse/keyboard.

Of course this comes from a guy who couldn't play a first person shooter with control sticks to save his life.

I think the novelty of the "jiggle" or motions will wear quickly unless the developers find a way to weave those into a game well without overusing them. COD3 uses them a little too gratuitously at times.

Losing your inhibition (Wii delight #002)

Re the comic:

Agreed that Joystiq keeps referencing it wrong. The comic is narrated by a third person throughout all three frames. The last frame is not a response to the other two, it is the same person talking. If you remember comic reading 101 you'd see that those arent speech bubbles... Hence "you could play like THAT," THAT being sitting and not doing much movement, is when you would be a toolbox, according to the comic. The comic is saying "if you are too self conscious or high-and-mighty to let yourself go with it, you're a toolbox." Whether or not we agree with that doesn't matter, that's just the joke the comic is making.

Personally I don't care how you play as long as you are having fun. Some of my friends have a complete blast going to town in Wii sports, but some are either more self conscious or calmer and don't see the need to stand while playing. I don't see a reason to fault either of these types of players. I like to get into it playing Wii Sports, for sure, but I pretty much vegetate on the couch playing Zelda.

TV remotes demystify Wii sensor bar

Nov 21st 2006 5:12PM (Joystiq)
As simple as it is, I think the lights do blink at a regular interval so just rigging up IR sources might not work perfectly. If the system 'tells' the remote when it blinks for sychronization purposes, you would have to find some way to get a homemade sensor bar to do the same thing.

Wii anticipation: preparing for launch

Nov 17th 2006 9:43PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
As stated above and also by me further above, grand old North Dakota won't let stuff be open then. However I doubt I will be asleep at the early hour of midnight...but I may show up a little before noon that day since my buddies work at the store and will be there on the other side of the gate. My preorder has arrived and is already paid for, so I just have to pick her up.

So places that aren't food stores/restaurants/gas stations can't be open before noon on Sunday...but the 24 hour porno place sure can! (I was told, maybe incorrect)

Skate footage impresses, asks Tony who?

Big Black rules!

I usually hate MTV but I like that show for some reason. I think that skater dude did a lot of motion capture stuff for that game.
