It really depends on where you live.

I had a 30 mile commute that took about 1-1.5 hours each way

I tried switching to public transportation for a month..my commute time increased to 2 hours each way and consisted of driving to the train station, taking the train to a central station, switching to a subway, and finally switching to a bus.
I also had to leave work earlier in order to catch the last train out. Which then meant I had to get into work earlier to make up for it.

So the money saved was small but nice. But it wasn't worth the 1 hour I lost to the longer commute, as well as being packed like a sardine in a bus during rush hour, and having to change my schedule in order to leave work early.

Now..if I lived in a dense metropolitan area like NYC or SF I would totally do public trans

I took a look at the pics in the gallery and the amount of front overhang and the amount of ride height does not look crazy or out of place
If you scrape while CORNERING...I bet their problem is a soft suspension or small swaybars.

I have scraped my car's front bumper coming out of driveways at factory ride height (08 STi) so it's not anything unique
