Best Buy's dubious intranet site investigated by Connecticut Attorney General

Mar 7th 2007 10:11AM (Engadget)
This has happened to me MANY times here in Canada at Best Buy. I thought it was just me. I check in the morning and see a sale, I go in at lunch and there is no sale VIA their computers.

I will ALWAYS print it out from now on before I waste my time going there. Or, I will buy it online and say I will pick it up at the store.

TurboGrafx the most downloaded Virtual Console games?

Dec 7th 2006 7:55AM (Joystiq)
I own a TurboGrafx16 and a TurboExpress(portable) and have had them since brand new back in the early 90's. I LOVE Bonk and have many other TG16 titles I would love to see on here like Splatter House and Devil's Crush, which as far as I am concerend was the best pinball game ever made. Devil's Crush still looks beautiful. It is too bad that the TG16 loast its footing as it was at the front of the pack. Even though I have this game on the TG16 I will download it so I don't have to drag my system out from storage ;)

The aftermath: PS3 launch and first impressions

Nov 17th 2006 11:17AM (Joystiq)
"Mr X, that's very poor logic. Relatively wealthy people are shelling out 2-5,000 bucks for this machine, but not to look at it...they want to have it NOW because they're going to play it NOW. These are the people who are going to buy Ridge Racer 7, Genji, and all of the even-mediocre launch titles to get the most out of their holiday purchase. It isn't like everyone has an equal finite number of dollars that they spend on gaming...if you're throwing down a huge sum on a PS3, then $300 bucks to get a set of games and a few accessories looks like NOTHING in comparison...indeed, it is required to make your purchase worthwhile."

Socrates, these people would be buying all of that regardless of the cost of the system so they don't count in this discussion. They are such a small percent of the population that they don't make a big difference either way meaning Sony could always count on that income. But if ONLY these kinds of people can afford a system, then they will lose customers at the intended retail price range. Sony needs a good install base in the middle class market if they want any hopes of competing. Little rich kids don't drive the market, gamers do, and most gamers will not spend the kind of money people are asking on eBay. They will be wise and wait.

The aftermath: PS3 launch and first impressions

If you look at the number of people buying it to eBay it you have to stop and think, who is actually going to buy the games and accessories? Sony is going to lose a lot of money on this release.

Think of it this way: either you pay retail for a system and buy 3 controllers, and 4 games, OR you buy one on eBay and get maybe one game for now because that is all you can afford. Which is better for Sony?

The system is already overpriced for a lot of potential customers, so to think that they will all pay more than retail to get one is a dream. Fact is, many scalpers made good on the 360 launch, and figure they can do the same with the PS3. I just don't think the demand is there. I think the scalpers will flood the market and be forced to lower their prices. This happened with the 360 but it took some time.

Personally I would not be buying one until they came out with games that I think are worth it. The Wii actually has games that I would play, so I would consider it. As for the 360, I already have one and I love it!
