'Let's Play' videos may soon make you a felon thanks to Senate Bill S.978 [Updated]
Jul 3rd 2011 10:06AM (Joystiq)I think the words I told you so are in need of beeing said too all those who voted for a Republican Majority in the house right about now. Nothing is getting done and these are the issues they claimed are so vintal to our nation's security? Helping make freedom of speach even harder?
That and for the people who don't fallow the news right now Republicans are going to force Obama to shut down the Federal Gov over a small peace of a bill that clearly says and I think this is the stupidest reason ever to fight over that the current law that dictates the number of years a CEO of said company can keep useing his Private jet is wrong it should be as the current law says 7 years, but for some reason it's only 5. So the Republicans are now not even speaking for the rich folks anymore because they are going to deny them 2 more years of Private jet uses after they leave said CEO chair............. Thats the issue they want to shut down the Goverment over................................ WOW just WOW.
NPD: 360 selling twice as many online-capable games as PS3
Jul 2nd 2011 7:39AM (Joystiq)You would think Sony would have faster servers, and better downloading protcalls but there stuff is so slow it's down right annoying. Even if you love games like WarHawk, and MAG your going to hate the load times, plus if you play SP games the laod times are even worse. Play Red Faction Gurrila, and Dead Space 1/2 on PS3 then play the same games on Xbox360 as well as their MP graphics aside when you install the Xbox360 titles to the HDD they load in seconds where PS3 takes minutes, Xbox360 titles also play much smoother off the HDD, where as PS3 games don't truly offload anything to the internall HDD other the space allocations for shuffling data on the BDs back and forth between the HDD, and the Disc it's self sure that works just fine for movies where everything is 2D flat images, but when you render 3D objects on a 2D screen ala 90% of all Video games Plus use OpenGL with a hard to work with custom code set, and last but not least marr the Video card with a Over Powered CPU, and no Internal Memory for the Mobo just share the XDR memory between the Video card, and the CPU/OS thats going to hurt your performance big time regardless if you have a 3.0GHrz Cell CPU, last but not least it hurst more that the Cell CPU has to share it's own internal cache IE 3MBs with the PS3s OS.
Fact is Xbox360 has 175MBs for the Mobo that like PS3 can be used anywhere it's needed, plus the SPU system has an embedded 4MB cache per SPU, and the Video Card it's self has 125MBs of memory built into the card. Do the math, the PS3 has a vary odd hardware set up and it works agenst the software developers make constantly because of all the memory issues, and the speed gaps between the 500MHrz GPU, and the 3.0GHrz CPU, on top of that the final nail in the coffin of the PS3 is the fact that hte Cell CPU they trumpet was built in the first place to do both physics and rendering it's shaders and MLAA are great, and so is the physics it can produce, the problem is it was built on a now out dated code system called Short Intager, All modern games now adays use Long Intager code strings because they are easy as hell to clean up, and patch and fix while the PS3 uses Short Intager code that was outa date when Xbox360 launched featureing the new Code system.
Remember Xbox360 when developers got there hands on it was slammed hard because it had Embedded Memory for the Video Card, as well as a Long Intager code base, plus 3 Power PC SPUs. Nothing had that at the time but now developers are used to working with that, plus unlike PS3 Xbox360 uses Direct X graphics protocalls which while some whine is hard to work with most developers have been working with it for years now while the only people who work with Open GL are Id Software, RavenSoft, Sony, and Nintendom and Apple. Plus the Open GL the PS3 has is not even Open GL 3.0 the good stuff, it's Open GL 2.5 which is slow and hard to work with.
Wii U graphics chip outed as last-gen Radeon (which is still pretty good, apparently)
Jun 17th 2011 11:34AM (Joystiq)If they use Open GL, and have a poor custom code for it ala the PS3 the same problems Sony has with third party titles will persist on the Wii U as well.
Open GL is a rather old API and while it works just fine for most MACs doing it with games built for DX9.0c and above via a conversion tool is harder then it looks theres a reason all MAC versions of PC games come out a year later. It's because it takes that long to get them to the same details as DX titles on Open GL regardless of Open GLs features it's much harder to work with as an API then Direct X is. Microsoft has games and has had games locked into Direct X for over 10 years now and to expect Open GL to beat the PC backed, and Xbox360 backed Direct X market is a foolish and hopless vender.
Fact is Open GL is harder to optomize, harder to code for, and takes much longer to get the same code strings done then Direct X dose. Simple as that and the PS3 has an even bigger problem beyond that with the fact that it's got an over powered CPU with some of it's internal cache being stupidly used for the OS, and on top of that it has a GPU with no internal memory thats only 500MGhrz in speed. WHile thats the low end for todays GPUs the biggest bottle neck the PS3 has is the fact that it uses old FAT32 formated drives, and uses short intager code systems that became obsolite like 5 years ago.
To do that massivly awsome train derail bit in Uncharted 2 took over 1000 lines of code, to do the same thing in Direct X on Xbox360, or PC would only take 500, to 200 lines of code. The facts don't lie.
Nintendo stock loses another five percent
Jun 9th 2011 2:08PM (Joystiq)BTW Nintendo said during the show that all the games shown from third party titles were Xbox360/PS3 games adn then they claimed it was going to look the same on thier platform.
IMHO this sounds just like the PS3 unvail back in 2005 when Sony realy had nothing to show but pictures and numbers/ plus some videos the consoles they had on display were all locked behind bullet proof glass and nobody could even get a good look at them. We kinda had to take their word for it. Seems to me Nintendo had nothing real to show save for some pre-rendered videos, and some floor display models that only had some functions turned on.
'Kinect Star Wars' details Forced out into the open
Jun 6th 2011 8:40AM (Joystiq)Plus if you want a HC StarWars game based on the first moives, go play Force Unleashed 1/2. both are vary good titles, and inspite of a few problems lock down the ideas of Force use vary well, with lightsaber combat.
I think this is mearly a Kinect version of that with a new art style, slower more managable pace, and on top of that more detailed game world. Looks great engine wise, the graphics are nice, the lighting is good, and the details are much better then what was showed at last years E3.
Plus if your going to get kids into a platform StarWars, and Disney are the ways to do it. Did you all forget the huge sales that Wii got when they had Force Unleashed 1 with Smash Bros style MP, and Disney's Kingdom Hearts? Same idea here only MS chose to do it with some HC titles in the back ground, and some more service announcements.
On a side note looking forward to more! Also please stop jugeing games before you play/See them. If this game looks as good as it dose here in the show I'll will pick Kinect up with my next paycheck, and set it up stairs.
Rumor: Domains reveal new Fable, Dance Central and Kinect Sports
Jun 5th 2011 9:13AM (Joystiq)For those freaking out about nothing but Kinect titles I can clear up some confusion here that the media seems to be pushing right now over XBL exclusives:
Halo HD remake: Uses Reach engine already talked about by 343 will feature 32 players an tons of stuff that was going to be in Halo CE from the start.
Gears of War: Exiel: was also confirmed by an Epic games programmer months ago as a XBLA Prequal to Gears 1 that cronicles the hight of the Pendolum wars, and how during E-Day Marcus got tossed into jail to rot
Fable 4 will feature Kinect features, but not require it for gameplay, IE it's going to be used for charictor interaction (IE being able to talk to INGAME NPC via VOIP features rather then via selected and pre scripted responses) As well as for personal interaction with NPCs IE the touch machanic used in Fable 3.
Fuzion is not a mash up game serise but instead the Fuzion Frenzy Racing game that is whole Owned by RARE Software. They have quite a few old trademarks still around.
Beyond Good and Evil 2, as well as Splinter Cell 6 were also confimed by Ubisoft to be at E3 this year both Xbox360 exclusives.............
I can't point to the interviews I read them in but people who are on the sites for these games read the blogs and the big websites like IGN, and Joystiq have both tossed these hints out the door in favor of causeing fanboy wars. Ingore them! PlayStataion, and Nintendo, as well as Microsoft can all win E3 this year, in fact there is no winner of E3 thats just a meida hype meter to freak out the loyalists.
Battlefield 3 adds co-op campaign, platoons, going prone, mountable weapons and more
Jun 3rd 2011 8:36PM (Joystiq)Plus we have no info on how vehicles have changed, or how they will work, I will bet big money on Tanks, and APCs being more team oriented on PC then in past games. Plus with both squads, and Platoons, plus a real commander per team it's going to be more fun then any COD game where they all run around and bunny hop like morons with no teamwork.
E3 2011 Prediction Bingo: Microsoft

Things already fulse on this bingo card:
New console: Microsoft already stated they are going to keep Xbox360 for another 4 years after Kinect launched sorry......... Not going to happen.
Zune Gaming device: Also Debunked a long time ago thats just whishfull thinking Microsoft has already stated they have no intrest in enterting the handheld gameing market because they see it all going to Cell Phones.
Cloud service: Also debunked a long time ago Microsoft has announced many times they are not going to force people to use online servers to store save files for games, and already HDD stored content.
E3 2011 Prediction Bingo: Microsoft
Jun 3rd 2011 11:26AM (Joystiq)Lets face it Joystiq must of not read the articles that stated the fallowing games confirmed for E3 for Xbox360 this year:
Splinter Cell 6 was confirmed by BluesNews
Banjo Kazooie 3 was confirmed by RARE Software
Microsoft just registered 3 new tradmarks for a game called Fuzion
CodeName Kingdoms is confirmed for E3 from Crytek
StarWars Kinect confirmed by Microsoft and LA
New Ruffian project for Microsoft
New Fable game for Microsoft
Joystiq seems to be intentionaly forceing down expectations for Xbox360 this year in light of their new Sony payed corperate owners. Much like all the game news sites are these days. Lets bash the top selling platform because it's cool to do so and ignore that Microsoft with Xbox360 has been on the top sales charts for the past 11 months in a row because they bet the farm correctly while Nintendo, and Sony bet wrong.
Rumor: MW3 gets Team Perks, new killstreaks, loses Tactical Nuke
