KORG DS-10 synthesizer up for pre-order in America

Jan 28th 2009 10:30AM (Engadget)
I bought the American version on Amazon several months ago and have loved it. It's a nice sketch pad for when you don't have your laptop with you or don't want to take it out.

It sounds way better than I could have expected and is a complete bargain at $39.

Every instrument/sequencer etc. has limitations. I like working within the limitations of the DS-10, because you come up with ideas that wouldn't occur to you if you were at your main sequencer (like Logic).

Blow explains dilemma of Braid's price to 1Up

Aug 8th 2008 10:21AM (Joystiq)
I have to say that I enjoyed the demo. I would have paid $10 to play through the whole game, but $15 really felt like too much for me. I guess the game just felt nice to me, but didn't totally hook me enough to pay more than I paid for PacMan C.E. or Geometry Wars 2.

I think the thing that screwed him over the most was coming out after Geometry Wars 2 and before Bionic Commando.

Verizon sues Time Warner Cable over some dumb ads

Apr 10th 2008 1:28PM (Engadget)
I've always hated this ad. It's misleading and not funny. Also, it's sad that they have to attack another provider, since they can't claim to have the most HD or the fastest internet.

The message seem to be that fiber optics are for people who are constipated. Who are the ad wizards that came up with this?

Xbox 360 with Blu-ray to spark price war with Sony PS3?

Apr 2nd 2008 11:32AM (Engadget)
I have a 360, and I would buy another one, if it came with a Blue-Ray drive built in. Unfortunately, it seems very unlikely.

Shane Kim said a while back that the problem with a high-def drive being the main drive is that they run at one speed, while standard DVD drives can run at variable speeds up to 52 times. The PS3 gets around this by using Blue Ray discs for games, making redundant data on different parts of the disc, and having games that install on the hard drive.

Unless MS engineers a drive that is capable of reading standard DVDs at high speeds, as well as blue ray movies, it would not be able to play 1st gen 360 games properly.

I'm not an engineer, and I don't know if the cost of manufacturing such a drive would be practical to implement, when they don't really have much incentive to include blue ray.

However, if they are smart, they will figure it out, because people like me are a second away from buying a PS3 as a blue ray player and eventually buying games for the PS3, instead of the 360 (assuming some decent titles start arriving).

Pac-Man Championship Edition hands-on

This game was way more awesome than I thought it would be. I was pretty sick of the idea of another pacman game, but it's really fun and looks cool and I'm definitely getting it.
