How is it that you equate the fact that you enjoy a game as somehow proof that the game is good. Enjoyment is subjective, and doesn't hinge on quality. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it in the beta, up until the flaws in it became too glaring. I enjoy UO, which might even have less subs than STO, and is so old as to barely get a reputation in the modern media.
Also, how is it that you completely miss the point people are making? It's not the unlimited trial, because that's somewhat sensible. It's the "Welcome Back Week", three months after the launch. At this stage, you're not supposed to be trying to bribe former subscribers back, unles the subscription churn post-launch was less-than-ideal. Trying to draw former subscribers back after only three months could easily be interpreted as a desperate move, from a company that lost too many of its initial subscribers.
