MS to take larger cut of best-selling Community Games {Joystiq}
Jul 23rd 2008 4:46PM I saw a cake and thought I was on Kotaku for a second.
So it begins: Feminist gamers decry Sony's Fat Princess {Joystiq}
Jul 23rd 2008 11:13AM Thank god these feminists are trying to put a stop to the stereotype of princesses that get fat by being fed by tons of cake. Thanks to their diligent response, I now know that all women are just fat, stupid, and complain a lot.
Feminists unhappy with Fat Princess {PS3 Fanboy}
Jul 23rd 2008 10:30AM She is a fat, ugly, woman herself. Should everyone be offended by her reinforcing negative stereotypes about women? And since when has fat been a stereotype of women, or princesses or whatever. If anything it's a stereotype of Americans.
She is clearly angry at the world because she's unhappy about her own life.
Get a Wii gun shell for only a few times its worth {Joystiq}
Jul 18th 2008 3:42PM Actually, there's more to these than just being a piece of plastic. There are moving parts. The Perfect Shot has a passthrough for the nunchuk. The trigger on the Perfect Shot is pretty stiff and squeaks after a lot of use. The zapper has a quick, responsive trigger.
If there was a Perfect Shot with a thinner handle, a trigger more like the zapper, and an actual built-in site so you can align in properly for games that feature configuration, then it would be much closer to perfect. Also a way to insert the wiimote without putting stress on the port when getting it in and out.
As for gun shells as a whole, it makes a difference, not only in feeling more like a gun, but you are aren't hitting a button on the top or bottom to shoot, and throwing off your aim every time you fire. I am all for gun shells.
New Ghostbusters screens give us the heebie-jeebies {Joystiq}
Jul 15th 2008 5:27PM You get the Wii version.
Seriously, that ones looks like it should be called "Ghostbusters Kidz".
PS3 Firmware 2.41 is now live {Joystiq}
Jul 8th 2008 10:26AM I'm on my 4th 360. All extremely well ventilated and kept clean. The first three were all brand new, swapped out in-store, and the one I'm on now was the 3rd one after it was repaired (technically it's my third, but I've had three die due to RROD).
I don't understand why this is hard to believe. Microsoft did extend the warranty to three years for this issue and took a huge financial hit. Do you think that happens when there's not a problem?

Jul 1st 2008 10:34AM Make a sound when you unlock them.
Personally I'd think things like private voice chat would be more important than adjusting display settings in-game.
The PS3 Trophy sound and other 2.40 FAQs answered {Joystiq}
Jul 1st 2008 10:12AM This update is a big letdown. I was excited about the custom soundtracks at least until it said that you can't stream from a media server. So I can stream music from a media server, through my PS3, to my PSP, but I can't stream music on the PS3 while playing a game. Lame. They should have ditched trophies for now, and focused on making chat work properly at least.
PS3 firmware 2.40: The good, the bad, and the belated {Joystiq}
Jun 30th 2008 3:44PM The person I was playing with had a bluetooth headset. I was just using my camera. This worked fine in the dashboard chat. It took us a while to figure out that you have to hold down select to enable chat. We were able to hear each other, but the output volume was way to low to make anything out. I tried then using my bluetooth headset. I had to go the dashboard accessories menu to set that to my device, then connect it in a separate menu. Then there is the menu in MGS4 to choose it, which it was never recognized it. It only gave me "Standard Device" as an option. I was never able to get my headset to work whatsoever in MGS4 (it's the Warhawk headset). Next time I am going to try to disconnect my camera first.
But my point is this. I have two places in the dashboard to adjust to use my bluetooth headset, then another menu in the game. I never had any difficulty using the xbox live headset. It's just not user friendly. And why would the volume be find in the dashboard chat, but be so low in the game, even when set to the highest levels?
My mic was to the higest volume in all the menus I can find. There were multiple places, so maybe you guys could tell me which menu you are referring to?

Jun 30th 2008 10:24AM My first experience with trying to play a PS3 game online with a friend this weekend was terrible. Spent two hours trying to be able to have voice chat, even though it was supported in the game (MGS4) and could barely hear each other. We actually played the whole time using our 360 chat. I was hoping some of the features in this update would fix this but I am seriously underwhelmed. I would gladly pay $50/year for PSN if it worked like Xbox Live.
