Microsoft prepping new Xbox 360 controller with improved D-pad for the holidays [update]

Aug 31st 2010 6:09PM (Joystiq)
@WMcPete

I have 4 controllers as well, my newest is 3 months old. The problem is really only specific to certain games depending on how they calibrate the stick threshold for the game. Games with small or no threshold will have the problem, while you'll never notice on most games.

Oblivion was the first game I had a problem with on my launch controller (it lasted the longest, probably a year or so). Games like Call of Duty and Halo are fine. You'll notice over time the amount of "wiggle" room the stick has without applying force is slightly smaller on a new controller. Over time, that wiggle space increases through wear, and when the wiggle space exceeds the stick threshold for the game, the stick will fall to the side just enough when not touching it to move slowly in that direction. Mass Effect 2 is giving me the problem most recently, every time the elevator opens, Shepard turns immediately toward the left wall and starts walking very slowly.

The N64 reference was really just sarcasm, you can see those controllers with sticks just laying to the side (no thanks to Mario Kart and Star Fox). The wear and tear is probably unique to the player and how you hold the controller, as well as the games you play. I have 4 controllers that drift to the left. My friend has two that drift right. It shouldn't happen at all. They need to analyze the Playstation sticks and learn a lesson.

Now if only they could make the sticks more durable so that they don't have problems with auto-centering after only 3 months of play. It's annoying when I'm not touching my controller, yet my character is slowly strafing to the left. These sticks are the worst in durability since N64. Actually, I think my N64 controllers still work better.

Diablo 2 - Blaze (especially on a barb).

Put Infernostrides on a barb with max Frenzy and Increased Speed. Your barb will actually travel back in time with only a trail of fire to hint that he was ever there.

Video: Pandemic goes out with a bang, 'Office Space' style

This was awesome! This would have been perfect, had someone remembered to take the toner out first. I think they probably dropped it, hit it, saw the cloud of toner, and then no on wanted to get too close to it. Notice late in the video, they are standing further out of frame pretty much just poking at it. Maybe it's actually funnier this way.

I don't know... it might be pretty entertaining to watch someone try to roll it. Mahouneko spins a bankrupt and goes nuts. Flips the wheel on it's side and rolls this giant wheel at the audience screaming "I'd like to solve the puzzle, bitches!"

Or maybe I'm just angry that I can't be playing MW2 right now as well. Guess that's kinda like lose a turn without a free spin.

David Bowie, Styx, Yellowcard & others join Band Hero

Mr. Roboto was the end of Styx. I would have loved Renegade. Or even Come Sail Away... but only if it included Eric Cartman as a guest singer.

For those interested in trying out the first one... make sure you get the enhanced edition. They completely re-recorded most of the voice-overs for it, and fixed a ton of graphical and game-breaking or crashing glitches.

The controls felt a little weird to me at first, but it was definitely a gem that I think a lot of true RPG fans out there missed.

Nick Mason: We'd consider Pink Floyd Rock Band or Guitar Hero

Sep 16th 2009 2:27PM (Joystiq)
I would definitely buy a Pink Floyd Rock Band, play it start to finish, even if it was steel bladder achievement style. The problem with this is that I know I would be the only one of all my friends around here to do it.

Despite my dream of a music game for my favorite band of all time, I have to agree with the idea that this wouldn't work. :-(

Free Batman: Arkham Asylum DLC coming next week

I'm really hoping for more predator levels. I can beat guys up all day, but it eventually gets old. I love the strategy and different techniques you can plan out in the predator levels. I'd love to see some new combat moves or takedowns as well. And the option to display a giant BAM! or POW! when you punch henchmen.

Side note, we're over 100 comments in, and I'm surprised no one has asked for a Harley and Ivy nude patch.
