Win a copy of Snow Leopard from TUAW

Aug 30th 2009 2:26PM (TUAW.com)
First version of OS X for me was Jaguar, 10.2.

Went to a local Mac store on release night and was bit awed by all of the excitement. They had demos (Sherlock!), stuffed jaguar giveaways and more. Totally different from my System 7.5 experience.

Some Macbook Pros are updated along with iWork '09

May 29th 2009 11:39AM (TUAW.com)
Late 2007 MBP. The firmware update appeared for me, but after downloading, it didn't auto start up as the instructions said it would.

Went into the Utilities folder to do it manually. Update went fine. After restarting, the app didn't confirm that it was successful like the instructions said it would.

In System Profiler before the update: SMC Version (System) was 1.16f8.
After the updateL 1.16f11.

Waiting for the next rev/gen. It's getting harder and harder though.

New variant of RSPlug trojan making the rounds

Just wondering: I use OpenDNS on my network. Would the DNS switcheroo that the Trojan attempts still work?

Napster MP3 store to rival iTunes store with 6 million DRM-free tracks

May 21st 2008 11:48AM (TUAW.com)
For the same reasons, I've moved over to Amazon for my music purchases. Makes me sad not to buy from iTunes but Apple needs to remove DRM in order to keep me.

Does Napster allow Mac users to buy music from their catalog now? Last time I checked (admittedly a few years ago), they didn't.

If they can supplement the dearth of stuff on Amazon, all the better for consumers.

Whaaa! All i have in my Developer folder is another called Applications\Utilties. And inside this are Applet Launcher and Jar Bundler.

I thought I installed all the Developer Tools from my Leopard discs, did I not?

Vidalia OS X client for Tor tunneling network

Apr 22nd 2008 9:00AM (TUAW.com)
@Grimloch, it's possible. I've used Vidalia, along with the Firefox plugin Torbutton, to watch TV programs from US networks' websites. Thing is, many of them have wised up to non-US peeps doing this, so they've blocked Tor servers after doing their homework to identify them.

Anyway, once you have Vidalia and Torbutton, if you go to this TorCheck site, it will tell you which country you appear to be coming from: http://torcheck.xenobite.eu/index.php?

Usually takes several tries, but if you're not where you want to appear to be, click the Use a New Identity button in Vidalia, then click the Check Again button back on TorCheck. Repeat until you get the UK.

I wasn't able to find a way to do this directly in Vidalia. Maybe this new version allows it. Also hope it's Universal. Privoxy is the only PowerPC app running and I'd like to give it the boot.

Trick out your dock with Dock Library

Feb 28th 2008 9:57AM (TUAW.com)
Nice!

Will haXX0r-ing the dock like this lead to issues when there are system updates, though? Always wanted to customize my system more, but keep hearing about problems once an OS X point update comes along. Not worth it to me to be switching icons and such back and forth all the time.

Wii Fanswag: No More Heroes

Toph, the earthbender from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I'm not sure if it's the martial arts style that it's based on (Hung Gar), or the fact that she's bind, but every time she bends it looks cool.

Wow. I'm such a dork.
