The possibilities of PS3-PSP connectivity [Update 1]

Nov 11th 2006 8:50AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Well, when I see a lot of perhaps and maybes, that sure sounds like speculation to me.

"Then perhaps sometime in the future we’ll get a program on the PSP that shows all the PS1 games on your HDD back home."

"The fact is, this might not happen right away. For all I know the PSP could have this included in the 3.0 update we’ll get this month."

"Perhaps it’ll allow you to save a bunch of replays you’ve accumulated over the course of a session that includes some incredible scores and moves."

"I’m almost certain devs like Polyphony will create some kind of “car garage” application for the PSP"

Those combined with the facts that most the other parts are based on promises made by Sony, who haven't really impressed me with their recent rash of going back on their word, and it just really drops this article down on the list for me.

Huh. I think this'd be a lot more impressive if it weren't for two things. First, when you write up an article and mention something that is well known by people, do your research first. All sorts of innacuracies abound, first concerning the GBA to GC connectivity (No special cartridge needed, and used in more than just Wind Waker and downloading games.) and then saying that nothing has been announced about the connection between Wii and DS (Video demonstrations of a DS being used as a controller for Pokemon).

Second, feels like a lot of this is based off of speculation. Sure, it all sounds good, but how much of this have we actually seen? Many things that sound great on paper don't turn out that great.

So I'm still meh about the whole connectivity thing.

Nvidia releases graphics card with physics ability

Nov 8th 2006 11:11PM (Joystiq)
Yeah, this is the reason why I laugh at the PS3 advertisements claiming that it is so amazing. Sure, it has good graphics, but that is not something that will make me buy a console because a computer can do it better. I'd rather spend my money on a high end graphics card, that costs less than the PS3, than on a game system with worse graphics than a PC and a HD movie format I wouldn't use anyways.

PS3 Ridge Racer: 9 minutes too long?

Ummmm... Paco From Del Taco, you mean like what every other console does? Cause last I checked you could only play a game on a console by pressing buttons and using a joystick. Isn't that forcing someone into a game control system in one way and way one only? Sure you can change the buttons around, but you still have to press a button to attack.

Personally, I find this rather funny. I game on all platforms, including PC, and plan on getting all the next gen consoles eventually. Stuff like this makes me laugh, because it makes the PS3 seem more and more like a baby PC.

The only thing that even remotely interests me in the PS3 are a few console specific games. I have a computer for watching movies with, playing music, looking at photos, surfing the web on my TV. If I want to watch Blueray disks (Which I don't see happening anytime soon) I'll just get the drive for my PC, costs about as much as the PS3 currently. And graphics? I've never bought a console for graphics, and never will. My gaming PC already matches or surpasses the 360 in graphics, and probably by the time I get a PS3 it will be inferior to my PC as well.

So yeah, a few games look kinda cool on the PS3, but not enough to even remotely convince me to buy one for over a year.

PS3 ads still peddling potentials

Oct 27th 2006 2:18AM (Joystiq)
I shook my head during these adds, as I have at most of what Sony has done recently. Now I don't hate the PS3, I plan on getting one eventually(Like in a year or three), and I had a PS2.

However, Sony is making a rather critical flaw that has been shown time after time. Think back over the years at various advertisements you have seen, the various products that have come out. Sony right now is trying to educate consumers about why their product is better. Think about those things again. How many of those that have had to educate the consumers have done very well?

People don't want to be told the reasons why they have to have something, they have to feel it. The reason why most commercials do not focus on the facts. Products that add to people's lives do well.

Look at the IPOD. Not the best, not the cheapest, from a techinical standpoint it is ok. Yet it is the best selling product in its class and has mantained that lead for a long time.

Of course, I do think these are at least better than the other PS3 advertisements I have seen.

eBay's PS3/Wii auction cancellations are a good move

Oct 14th 2006 10:33PM (Joystiq)
I don't have a problem with people selling stuff on ebay. What I do have a problem with is people selling something they don't even have yet. Somebody wants to pay several thousand dollars to buy a PS3, let them. It's their money, not mine.

Trying to sell something that you have absolutely no gaurantee that you will have in a month is just idiotic. What if Sony cuts the amount being released again? Or if EB/GS decide to sell all their PS3s on Ebay? You could very well not get a game system, and there would be nothing illegal about it. So that person who paid you for a console doesn't get one.

I don't have a problem with you guys selling a PS3 at launch, but at least be honest and wait until you can actually deliver on your promise.
