"scutpuppy, you kind of missed my point... why does it matter to people so much that they need to argue with each other online about what game is on what system? why should person A call person B whatever insult they feel is most clever or insulting simply because (insert game name here) isn't going to be on the PS3/360/Wii? the question i'm asking is why is "joe gamer" so totally invested in the success of one companies toy over the others? if microsoft/sony/nintendo (pick one) was the only game in town you would only get whatever they decided to give you and nothing more. we should all be supportive of diversity in gaming... it isn't that hard to realize that if i get tired of what i'm being offered on my 360 i can turn on my Wii and get a different experience and if that gets old there's something new for me on the PS3. there's not one perfect system and there's no way everyone would be satisfied if every game was multiplatform... the more choices we have the better. money will always be an issue when it comes to gaming but there's no way that any game will be the same experience on all consoles due to the differences that are inherent to each one and it's up to us to decide which one (or two, or three) is best for ourself and totally pointless to argue that decision with anyone else."
I totally agree that diversity in gaming is a good thing. But I still think people argue this for the reason I said. People don't want to waste money on something, especially when it's an expensive console. People argue this stuff to justify their decisions -- they don't want to have to buy multiple consoles to get what they want.
"someone please explain to me why it makes any difference. seriously, i want to know at what level in your life does it make any difference what games are available on the different machines."
Well if you're a fan of a game that's on another system, stuff like this can save you hundreds of dollars. Saving $600 matters to a lot of people.
"i don't get the "selling on e-bay" thing. it's like people that sell food at expensive price during war time, making easy and fast money on the back of poor people. This people are not better than those people that we all hate so much."
Simple supply and demand. Since in the short term, supply is fixed, and since Sony has fixed the price, there will be inefficiencies. That's where Ebay comes in -- it helps reduce them. This leads us to a startling conclusion -- the PS3 is worth more than its retail price!
"Were the 'separate court actions with separate claims and different judges' really designed to exterminate one of the internet's most popular gaming import retailers?"
No. Sony pumped money into its legal machine just for fun.
"Although publishers still screw gamers with digital distribution -- charging them the $10 mark-up that brick and mortar stores tag on legitimately to stay in business. Even if digital distribution would take over tomorrow, gamers would be shafted with over-priced product, without the recourse of selling that game to recoup some of the losses."
What? That doesn't make any sense. Why is that $10 mark-up not legitimate? Because it's from a developer trying to make money? If there were no monetary incentive to produce these games, they wouldn't exist.
If it's such a bad deal, gamers won't buy the game. But you know as well as I do that this will not be the case. So if gamers want to buy these games, what's the problem?
"We already know EA is fond of collecting every factoid imaginable from your Xbox Live account, so this Orwellian tactic is not as a surprising as it should be."
Orwellian? Hardly. When you buy, install, and play this game, you are silently consenting to this. There's a simple solution if this bothers you -- don't buy the game.
