Exclusive: Sony Ericsson to introduce Android 3.0 gaming platform and PSP Go-like smartphone

Aug 12th 2010 12:59AM (Engadget)
@Cainhunpi Would just like to say told you so to everyone that has ever scoffed at my mockups and belief that Sony would bring in Android for the PSP2. This goes for on here and on different gaming forums. So far the only prediction I've made over the past couple of years that went south was Google Wave catching on. That one still stings.

But hopefully this is the PSP predecessor that people have been rumoring for TGS. If so, Sony makes a big comeback when everyone was giving them a WTF after the 3DS was revealed at E3.

@Soviets
I wanted this bad boy until I found out about the lack of LED flash. I expect dual LED these days. None at all? Deal breaker.

Early Windows 8 features to include startup performance boost, visual login, and improved graphics (Update: Windows Store, no more 1394?)

@SolidSnake
All this article told me is that MS is really slow. Ubuntu has awesome features already in progress such as the Software Center with Ubuntu One support being integrated.

MS needs to add in a unified notification system, and make the app store control updates. Ubuntu has ruined me. I turn on a Windows machine and 4 update alerts pop in my face, I hold the power button and walk away.

The new Xbox 360 is here -- we go head-to-head with the 360 Original, PS3 Slim, and Wii

@techlord
Disclaimer: Owner of original 60GB PS3 fat, love it, never plan to own another system this gen.

PS3 fat = 360 slim, but I think the 360 has a slight edge in vertical
PS3 slim > 360 slim in horizontal
360 slim > PS3 slim in vertical
Looks like Sony sort of bailed on vertical design with the slim

But most importantly 360 slim >>>> Original 360.
I always thought the 360 looked like a cheap toy. This system is great looking though, so good going MS.

Sony PlayStation Move hands on at E3: these lollypops don't lie

@big nazty
It's 2010. It uses an LED... not a bulb. Why would you have even considered that?

@Omen9405 Yeah sorry. Just because you weren't paying attention the past several years, doesn't change anything. MS has done one thing unique that Sony didnt, put a lot of media attention on their camera.

I think you are mistakenly putting the Eye and the VisionCam in the same boat. They are not one in the same.

But out of curiosity, what were a couple of the things shown for Kinect that blew you away?

@jon The eye can measure distance between subjects, yes. It was one of the advancements they made over the Eyetoy to help pick out different people in view. Another was the low light focusing because they realized many gamers played in the dark.

I'm not writing off Natal/Kinect. The hardware can do things the Eye alone cannot, period. But MS didnt prove that, or at least hasn't as of yet. I'm looking forward to seeing the limits they can reach, but at the same time I also want to see where the PS3 can push the combo of controller and camera.

Everyone writes off Sony and MS as Nintendo copy cats, but I think they're the ones that will really change things. Much of what Nintendo did wasnt new to begin with.

@Mofetti MS tried that with Vista and it went no where. The demos I saw showed that menu control wasnt that quick or convenient. I have a feeling that anything you do with motions, I can do 10x faster with a controller, as you'll probably redo every action two or three times.

Also, calm down. MS didnt start anything. They bought a company and everything they've shown at E3 could have been done with the Eye for the most part. They havent really used the hardware to its strengths yet. You should do some reading on what all the Eyetoy team has done over the years if you're that interested. To you this is all new and exciting, to me it's 2006 with fresh branding.

@Mofetti I already answered above that the PS3 has had video chat since it was released. But to your other comments, Richard Marks has demoed controlling the XMB and other interfaces for a couple of years. They've also done work with voice control and many other areas. In fact one of the main things you hear about for FPS motion control with Kinect is leaning, but Sony has been doing that since 2004 with the PS2.

If anything someone should do some investigating and find out who has been shooting down Richard Marks work and get them fired. Much of what MS and Nintendo have been presenting is stuff his team has had done for a long time. I feel for him.
