So that's why Sonic was at the Progressive store the other day...

SOL: Exodus attempts space combat genre reignition Jan. 25

@GuardianLegend2 I like that aspect of FreeSpace. A lot of space sims tend to be heavy on the "sim" side of things, in terms of micromanagement and economy, and while I understand fans who like that, it's not really my cup of tea. I prefer simpler arcade action and a good story and FreeSpace did both. SOL: Exodus seems to take after that model, so I'm more interested in it than other recent space sims.

I've been looking forward to this one since Joystiq first mentioned it. The game has come a long way over the months and I really look forward to playing it! We need more FreeSpace-style space combat games. :D

PIPA on hold in light of 'legitimate issues raised by many,' says Senate majority leader Harry Reid [update]

Jan 20th 2012 12:39PM (Joystiq)
@Ender7 Totally agree. It's easy for these politicians to take a stand one way or the other when it's a standalone bill. Given Smith's remarks, I'd expect that they intend to take this underground and attach it to some completely unrelated bill. If it was part of some giant government spending proposal, or military funding, do you think any of them would deny or veto it just to preserve the Internet? Not a chance.

As a career politician, Reid knows this. He's probably sacrificing PIPA in order to go under the radar. According to OpenSecrets, from 2007 to 2012, he took in over $600,000 in "contributions" from the TV/Music/Movie industries and over $3,700,000 from lawyers. Both industries stand to benefit enormously if PIPA or some form of it passes.

@Silvaan I agree with Faceless Troll. The shutdown of Megaupload just goes to prove that the existing DMCA laws are more than sufficient for dealing with this kind of problem. Megaupload was a site which dealt with a significant number of pirated files. Now the entire site was shut down and its founders were arrested. That seems like more than enough power to me.

Mario Kart 7 review: An exercise in fun/frustration

Nov 29th 2011 11:57AM (Joystiq)
@mrantimatter I totally agree.

If Nintendo wants to have that aggressive handicapping, that's fine, but make it an OPTION. The game, as a whole, would benefit from more gameplay options. Control over what weapons appear, custom track playlists, the degree of handicapping, etc.

I'd say every title after Mario Kart 64 has this bizarre hardcore stance on handicapping. There's no incentive to be 1st until the last lap, and then it's a mad dash and a crapshoot who wins.

Business Software Alliance speaks out against SOPA

These are the people sponsoring this bill. If one of them is in your state, remember this bill the next time you cast your vote. I realize often a vote is between the lesser of two evils and a lone voter's voice is small, but the word needs to get out about who these people are and how they intend to appease big media groups such as the RIAA and MPAA at your expense.

Sponsor: Lamar Smith (R-TX)

Co-Sponsors: Mark Amodei (R-NV), John Barrow (D-GA), Karen Bass (D-CA), Howard Berman (D-CA), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Mary Bono Mack (R-CA), John Carter (R-TX), Steven Chabot (R-OH), John Conyers (D-MI), Ted Deutch (D-FL), Elton Gallegly (R-CA), Robert Goodlatte (R-VA), Tim Griffin (R-AR), Peter King (R-NY), Ben Lujan (D-NM), Thomas Marino (R-PA), Alan Nunnelee (R-MS), William Owens (D-NY), Dennis Ross (R-FL), Steve Scalise (R-LA), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Lee Terry (R-NE0, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Melvin Watt (D-NC)

Apple and Microsoft join Nintendo et al in support of Internet-censorship bill

Nov 20th 2011 2:36PM (Joystiq)
The thing I find most offensive is by most measures, the country is continuing to slide right off a cliff, yet apparently the most pressing concern for these politicians is protecting IP and policing the Internet. Leahy and crew have some truly mixed up priorities.
