Virtual Console adds classic role-playing, tardy fighter

Aug 25th 2008 1:54PM (Joystiq)
save your money and dl the FREE and remastered versions...VGA graphics, fresh anime cut scenes and the music(yes the original was great in the time but come on)is totally redone and vastly superior to the original game release...and this is coming from someone who purchased a supergraphx with super cdrom2 way back in the day when i collected such systems just to play such games...I do not understand why they are not cleaning up the old games for the nintendo vc like they are with the other systems and pc releases. Exact same story line and game play with VGA quality graphics and cut scenes...how can u loose?

Joystiq impressions: Wii Fit mini-games

Apr 15th 2008 10:24AM (Joystiq)
Ok everything still looks great, but what are the physical specs on this thing? I've seen the videos and for someone my size, it really dosnt look like I will be able to use the bloody damn thing...I'm 6'3" 245lbs, most of my friends are about 6-6'5" and all of our weight varies. It really dosnt look like the thing is wide enough or deep enough for someone with a bit of height and a wider stance to use, not to mention the weight limitations and size 13 feet, the thing looks as if someone my size were to stand on it that it would crack in half not to mention jumping up and down on the thing...I know Nintendo designs things for kids and from an Asian perspective but does this mean that people bigger that 5'8" and 150lbs will be able to use this comfortably or will all of us taller and bigger folk be left out in the cold? Hey Nintendo, why not just create a roll out exercise mat with the same tech? This would allow for any stance you wish as well as open up a broader horizon for getting into depth with yoga, pilates, any cardio routine I could think of honestly...and no, im not talking power pad, but something along those lines perhaps

Joyswag: Win a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Mar 24th 2008 12:07PM (Joystiq)
They actually got it right for me this time around and to be honest, I was never really into the smash brothers series until they brought back the beloved character of Pit from the world of Kid Icarus. Seeing Pit as a newly featured character in Smash Bro. and hearing of promised hints of a newly developed game sending us back to the kingdom of Angel Land, well, to be honest, I havnt been this excited about a returning character/series of 80's gen games since the return of Rygar a couple years back on the PS2 (anyone remember the arcade Rygar, that was actually my favorite). Good for you Nintendo, now how about working on some of your other lost characters of old. I would love to see a return to nintendo pro wrestling...Kin Corn Karn throws some wicked kim chi!

Jack Thompson files BioShock ad complaint with FTC

Aug 19th 2007 1:43PM (Joystiq)
And the beautiful part of all of this is that Jack is not concerned about the children watching triple H or whomever it may be knocking another wrestler over the head with a chair until blood fly out everywhere for the good hour or two that wwe is on the tv, no, he is worried about the 30sec commercials in between the carnage that wwe brings to little kiddies...oh wait, i forgot, children can also change the channel to cnn or fox news or even one of the religious channels where they can see soldiers blow apart other people and terrorist beheading their enemy's and personage of the cloth talk about the evils of another man because he believes in something different...or perhaps change it to fox fx network where they can see dead naked hookers and cops beat people with phone books. Or perhaps even better, the government can keep their nose out of how people are to raise their children, but thats wishful thinking. yes, come to think of it, a video game is what is bringing the end to the victorian notion of proper childhood and raising up trained killers...yes, this is the scapegoat of all the worlds problems. But always remember this, no matter what, sex is wrong and nudity is a sin (unless its news footage or an autopsy or a fat white mans ass on some cop show), but blowing up people and showing their dead children...well, thats good ratings.

Grand Theft Auto IV special edition announced at $90

May 22nd 2007 2:15AM (Joystiq)
I laugh at you all! I am a original Neo-Geo owner from back in the 90's and still love SNK, so before you start bitchin and complaining, try paying upward of 300 for one game, some of which fetch over 1000 as collectors items

Microsoft defends 120GB Xbox HDD price

Apr 4th 2007 12:27PM (Joystiq)
Yes, overpriced indeed! Let us also not forget that if you go for a standard 31/2" drive instead of the laptop drives, you are almost certain to double your drive capacity for the same price. i.e. i have a 250gb drive that i purchased along with a external case...total cost of the whole shi-bang? about $150, and that was over a year ago. So where is the extra money going? the little fancy packaging for the merchandise? the xbox 360 style external case and adapters? I mean i cant imagine that ms would have cut a deal with the manufacturer of these drives so horrible that they grossly overpaid for them, if anything, seeing that they are probably buying them by the thousands, they should cost that much more less correct? Yet another reason that I will not purchase ANY console for another year or so...I'll wait like i usually do until all the consoles are finalized and all the bugs are worked out and you can go buy the super bad ass ultra deluxe version 7.0 that is usually out after the 2nd year of the product for about $2-300 less than before, and all the games that i want now are down around 20 bucks. shop smart, shop s-mart

Newsweek: Blu-ray the movie winner

Nov 16th 2006 11:17AM (Joystiq)
Yes, because a video game system always centers itself around the rest of a persons multi media package. Are we not forgetting the fact that even if every 360 and ps3 sell out for the next couple years, that still leave a huge gap left over for all of those who want nothing to do with video games at all, those who wish to watch a movie or tv show and thats that. No game or entertainment system is going to decide a format war, which is about dead anyway with higher bandwiths being offered to more and more areas (spots in europe already testing out 100gbs (yes, i said 100GBS, that would transfer 2 blue ray disk in under a minute!) bandwith technology. Why drive out somewhere or rent something or go browse through a store when i can download the latest movies, games, music or whatever have you for cheaper on line? yes, you dont have the pretty little packaging or an immediate hard copy, but its the same damn thing. Face it, the days of cd's tapes, dvds, media cards etc etc are soon to be at an end. I dont think it will happen within this console wars end, to much tech to push on the tech unfriendly masses...have to dumb things down a bit, but by next console war, or half decade, i really dont see any formats at all...i see watered down media center pc's/game systems/multi media managers in people homes for probably around the price of a new game system or a bullshit pc, and people will be downloading that evenings shows and music that very morning or perhaps on thier way to work over thier cell or what have you...media wars? the only loosers that will truely be are those who rush out to buy one of these players and sit on it for the next couple years only to slowly watch it die anyways.
