It would have been an entirely different launch had this current team had their way with FFXIV's development. Assuming that SE didn't try to push launch, if the beta would have lasted longer and if they listened to player complains during beta.
Nice to read someones unbiased opinion about the game. As someone who's played since beta to now I can tell you it has come a long way and it's only getting better. Once 2.0 hits it's going to be crazy and I'm looking forward to see how the game does once this happens.
Sorry you're having a rough start with your gear. The Market Wards after the patch removes all of the retainers. For low end gear though, if you go in to the appropriate ward for the type of armor you need there will be a couple of NPC's that can sell you generic gear to help get you started. I hope this helps, happy gaming!
This has been a huge complaint for many people with very decent gaming rigs. The thing I recommend is turning off Ambient Occlusion. That setting is intended for the highest of high-end gaming PCs. I turned it off and noticed an incredible increase in FPS (At least 30FPS in most areas).
I really hope you do. Just don't be discouraged by the learning curve. 1.19 added some basic beginners tutorials (Which are planned to be expanded upon in the future) but there's little hand holding. If you're able to overcome that it's really turning in to a great game. I have played since Alpha as well and it's incredible what they've accomplished since then and to know that they're only half way to where they want to be as far as repairs to the game and what would have been starting content is really encouraging. They're not giving up on this game and I won't either.
People who are curious about the game, 1.19 is a great starting point to try it out, it's still F2P after you purchase the game and should remain that way for some time while they get the game up to par.
The game honestly is coming along quite nicely but there are still huge problems to overcome. According to the dev team they're perfectly aware but it's taking time to rework those key systems. Considering how broken the game was at launch I believe it.
