Trademark has never been about who something actually deserves to belong to. But I bet that Valve will open-source the trademark.

Can you see text floating over Joe Public's head as you bump into him over at McDonald's? No? Then why are you able to try and remotely justify this as an issue? If your 'immersion' in your roleplay is weak enough that this irks you, then turn off nameplates as you shouldn't have them on anyway.
