This is a post coming from Vlad...the guy who kept posting really dumb graphs about how Nintendo sucks, and try to explain why spending more money on the PS3 makes sense (this guy got ripped up by PA, remember?).
Written off and ignored. Its obvious from your roomate that you live amongst stupidity, and its rubbed off quite a bit on you (or was it you that rubbed off on him?)
*Upon opening the PS3* "Now THIS is what I'm talking about! This thing fits comfortably in our entertainment center, and the controllers are completely new! Do you see this little holographic Playstation symbol?! Man...When's GTA4 come out? This thing totally rocks. I can't wait to play GTA4, or how bout Ridge Racer 7?! Or maybe MGS4?! How bout Virtua Fighter 5? DMC4? RE5? Man, this thing rules..."
I love how everyone who's psyched about the PS3 hates motion controls...and why shouldn't they!
I'd be pissed too if the company I loved so much decided to tack-on motion controls late into the system's developent and then chuck it into games it wasn't needed (Tony Hawk, Virtua Tennis, Lair...etc)
Its upsetting enough to see all these ports with tacked-on motion controls. With Ubi and EA throwing all their stuff at every console imaginable...its obvious the controls will more often then not be sub-par.
It'll take a bit for developers to get used to motion-control, but motion control is here to stay.
Oh I definitely agree. But America works off elitism (iPods anyone?) and I'm just wondering when everyone's got a nextdoor neighbor constantly going "Hey! Check this thing out it looks beautiful!" how long it'll take for people to convert.
I'm getting a Wii, as I wouldn't spend 600 bucks on a console. However, trying to be as unbiased as I can, the PS3 just seems to be severly lacking in quality launch titles.
Resistance: Fall of Man....and?
I believe all the reports about "economic analysts" saying the PS3 will win in the long-term is banking on HD-consumer buzz to take over in the later years.
Not to mention that there are a lot of games that hardcore consumers look for: FF Series, MGS Series, DMC Series, RE Series. All of these games are coming to the PS3, and aside from RE5, only the PS3.
I'm a Wii fanboy, but the PS3 has some considerable meat coming in the future, and I've seen waaaay too many hillbilly or gangster types going "PS owns you, graphics = teh win"
Here's a wish to having fun instead of bragging about your financial penis.
@ 18: I agree that the 1st party titles have the best chance of using the controller the most properly, however, some 3rd party titles are using the controller equally as well. Rayman is easily the biggest suprise contender in the Wii gamepool.
And PS3 is just as guilty of "tacking on" as anyone. Motion controls? Online system? HDMI support for Core system?
PS3: Powerful hardware coupled with strong titles (in 2007) will lead to a fine system life.
Wii: Innovative gameplay design coupled with strong titles (at launch and in 2007) will lead to a smooth initial system life.
The question for me about Wii is: when do graphics start becoming a factor? In 2008, when HDTV will be a lot more common, are people going to be ok with throwing Wii graphics up there, or are they going to shift to the more powerful systems purely for the visuals?
Nintendo and its 3rd party developers are going to have to release a constant stream of solid titles to keep consumers interested.
