The Soapbox: Voice chat is the worst thing ever

Mar 21st 2012 4:05PM (Massively)
You know, I never get this whole aversion to voice chat or participating with a group in general. I have several members in my guild who will never speak in our voice chat system, but will listen (most of ones who do this are women, so maybe that has something to do with it). It's not like people are going to poke fun of you because of how you talk. If they do, then that is THEIR problem and they will quickly find themselves out of a guild.

There seems to be this ever increasing shift in the typical MMO player to play solo or lone-wolf as much as possible. This defeats the purpose of an MMO. Gone are the days where most content required groups of players to complete it. Now, if a player can't complete a quest on their own, they just skip it or grind solo until they can come back and do it on their own.

The Guild Counsel: Star Wars guilds need more love!

Jan 13th 2012 7:22PM (Massively)
GUILD ACTIVITY LOG. As a guild leader, that right there is my #1 request right now. When I log on and find that there are new members because they were invited by one of my officers, I have to manually go though our offline roster to find out who they were. That would save me a TON of work.

And to those of you who say you haven't found a good RP guild yet, I encourage to check out the Server Sanctum of the Exalted. There is a very active RP community and many RP guilds can be found on this server (including mine, The Corellian League). I hear you though, right now RP is a bit scattered, but a lot of it has to do because the game is brand new and most players are focusing on leveling their characters. Once more of us have reached end game, the RP will REALLY take off.

Ubisoft delays PC version of [insert game here] at 11th hour [update]

Aug 11th 2011 3:46PM (Joystiq)
After downloading the 360 demo and discovering that the game has NO wheel support, I was considering saving some money and getting it on the PC via STEAM instead. Guess not now.

And seriously, who makes a driving game WITHOUT Wheel support? Talk about laziness....

Check out Epic's Unreal Engine GDC tech demo (while you can)

Mar 4th 2011 3:32PM (Joystiq)
I find it interesting that they are just calling this an Unreal Engine 3 UPGRADE and not Unreal Engine 4. Also, I want to see a demo that involves actual user controlled gameplay.

Battlefield 3 gameplay footage, 'Back to Karkand' DLC confirmed

Feb 23rd 2011 5:27PM (Joystiq)
Ugh...why must I watch an ad for toliet paper just so I can watch an ad for a video game? I hate these ingetrated ads that have to play before you can watch the video (which in most cases are just ads themselves).

That being said, I can't wait for Battlefield 3. I have always prefered the Battlefield series to Call of Duty. Why would I just want to be a lowly grunt running around with a machine gun when I can instead be driving a tank with a canon or flying a helicopter with rockets. Also, I have always found the Battlefield player base to be slightly more mature then CoD (slightly...).

Pause to 'Remember' this Halo: Reach live-action short

Aug 25th 2010 1:08AM (Joystiq)
Every time one of these commercials come out I have to wonder why we never got that Halo movie. It's obvious that who ever is making these ads knows what they are doing. I mean, the commercials are more serious then the games and have a very nice "realistic" military sci-fi style to them...like something from a Heinlein novel. Sci-Fi channel needs to pick this up ASAP and make a Halo TV show. Hell, NBC needs to pick it up and save their network after they let Heroes and their Sci-Fi genre shows die on the vine.

Sony issues NEX-VG10: first interchangeable lens HD Handycam camcorder

Jul 14th 2010 12:36PM (Engadget)
Looks great. My only questions are does it suffer from severe rolling shutter like other Exmor based cameras do and will there be an adapter to use Nikkor F-Mount lenses with it?

NTP awakes, sues Apple, Microsoft, Google, HTC, LG, and Motorola over wireless email patents

Jul 9th 2010 10:21AM (Engadget)
I don't understand how with the advent of of modern smart phones and the ubiquity of wireless broadband that sending and receiving email on a mobile phone is any different than with a normal computer. What exactly did this Tom Campana invent that makes email over a wireless network so unique? How is it different then accessing email over WiFi, which is also wireless?

Hulu Plus announced with support for iPad, iPhone, PS3, Xbox Live, and more (update)

Jun 29th 2010 7:26PM (Engadget)
@SCXFAN Netflix has a couple of things going for it. First, their specialty are movies, which people are already used to paying for if they want to watch them legally. The fact that their are TV shows is sort of a bonus. Also, Netflix was first, and many people who already subscribe to Netflix are going to be hard pressed to find a reason to also subscribe to Hulu, espcially when much of the content on Hulu is also on Netflix. Also, Netflix was never a fee service and streaming was added on later as an addition to their DVD mail service. Hulu started out as a free streaming service. Further more, Netflix does not have ads, where as Hulu does. And the fact that you have to pay a monthly fee AND watch ads just makes it seem like less value.

Hulu Plus on Xbox will be a 'custom experience', restricted to Xbox Live Gold members

Jun 29th 2010 5:28PM (Joystiq)
So, is Hulu Plus on XBOX going to be free to Gold Members, or is it just that Gold Members will also get the "luxury" of paying $10/month to access Hulu Plus on top of their XBOX Live gold yearly subscription cost? Cause, I already pay $9/month for Netflix, can't see Hulu as being worth another $10.
