I wanna see a midget (err sorry, "little person") that does backflips and attempts to break handcuffs.

Joyswag: LittleBigBeta code giveaway, day one

I want to make a giant flaming dog that wears boots and has four tiny men riding on his back that throw rocks at you. Also maybe a ninja with a jetpack.

Yeah! Miyamoto needs to ditch nintendo and start making some PS3 games now.

New Mercs 2 trailer reveals August 31st release date

Apr 3rd 2008 11:38PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Wow, what a terrible description for the video. A generic shooter? Do you consider Grand Theft Auto to be a "generic shooter" as well? Because Mercenaries is that style of game. They've been working on Mercenaries 2 for a long time, it's probably really good.

Rob Yascombe dreams about Haze being 'awesome'

I thought the video was pretty funny, but Haze doesn't look that special to me. I've watched videos on the "nectar" mechanics, like throwing nectar grenades at enemy soldiers to make them go crazy and turn on their buddies for a while, but that's not even a very new game mechanic, there have been several games where you can "berserk" enemies and make them attack their own allies. Other than that, this just looks like a typical FPS... Typical dystopian urban setting, unoriginal character design (soldiers with huge helmets with a colored visor? Master Chief anyone?), contrived plot (soldiers vs. rebels... that's a new one).

And on the topic of Master Chief... Does anybody else see this as an attempt to cash in on Halo's success? Sure, the plots of the two games are completely different, but the graphic style and gameplay seems very similar. On top of that, the title of the game "HAZE", is very aesthetically similar to "HALO", even though the word is different. It's a dumb comparison, but think about it: It's right next to Halo alphabetically, it looks like halo on the back of the box, it's got a soldier with a colored visor on the front. Sure it will be PS3 exclusive (for a while at least), so it wouldn't be next to Halo 3 in gamestop, but somebody who doesn't know much about video games may be inclined to assume that HAZE is similar to HALO merely because of the name similarity.

But yeah, this is just an observation by me. I'm not an Xbox fanboy trying to put down a PS3 exclusive, as I don't even own an Xbox. I'm a proud PS3 owner, I play it every day, I'm just making an observation about a game. So no offense.

Yeah, because the half a day (at most probably) they spent making that video, could have better spent making that game a masterpiece. You know because games are created in a week and stuff.

Five Army of Two videos to get your blood pumping

Mar 5th 2008 10:06PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Bought it today. Played the single player for about 3 hours, and one multiplayer match before I had to go to work. The single player is really solid. The partner AI isn't incredibly stupid, it actually works really well once you figure out how the AI responds to your commands. Story's pretty campy--feels like a Bruckheimer movie turned into a video game--but that doesn't really take away from the gameplay.

The online was really fun from what I played, but the game ended prematurely when someone quit. Then I had to go to work :(. I'll play more tonight, my PSN id is "cycopl" for anybody who wants to play some laid back co-op (I'm still learning the game, I can't stand playing with people who take the game too seriously and yell and scream when you're not perfect at the game)

PSN about quality, not quantity, says Sony

Feb 19th 2008 5:50PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Just sounds like Sony making excuses for not having as large of a selection on their store. I don't really look at a handful of Geometry Wars clones as "quality", but I've never been a huge fan of the bullet dodging, arcadey shooter genre. They need to make some unique 2D platformers/adventure games, I'd snatch them up immediately.

Reminder: Lost Planet demo is back online

Feb 16th 2008 7:32PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I thought it was a lot of fun, but the lobby has a lot of bugs. Even after the demo's re-release, I only connect to maybe 20% of the servers I try, and that's being generous. The 8 player servers seem kind of small, but the full game is 16 players so that's a bit better... The gameplay itself is really fun though, I love the grappling hook. Also, it's debuting at $40, so you wouldn't be wasting $60 on it.
